Deep Throat Close to Death It appears the Watergate source known as "Deep Throat" may be close to death, and that means that individuals name may be made public for the first time.
Reporter Bob Woodward has said in the past that he would disclose the identity of the course when that person died. Deep Throat helped Woodward and the Washington POst expose the Nixon Water gate scandal.
The Washington Post has already prepared an obituary, which means the world may soon know the secret Woodward has managed to keep for 30-years.
Impossible. Gerald Ford was a Congressman and House Minority Leader from Grand Rapids, Michigan until October 1973 when he was nominated to fill the vacancy in the Vice Presidency caused by Spiro Agnew's resignation. He wasn't close enough to the White House in 1972-73 to know anything.
Rehnquist was an assistant attorney general, very much in the loop, during the Watergate investigation. He certainly had access to inside information. He was nominated to the Supreme Court shortly after Nixon won re-election in 1972, and he took the bench in January, 1973, as the scandal was unfolding.
Trouble is, both Woodward and Bernstein have said repeatedly that Deep Throat was prominently placed in the executive branch. Rehnquist is in the judicial branch. They, as well as Ben Bradlee, have also said emphatically that Deep Throat is one person, male, still alive, and that Woodward is still in touch with him.
I think Deep Throat, whoever he is, will leave an explanation for his actions to be published after his death. And his intentions were most likely honorable, an attempt to put pressure on Nixon to clean up the mess while he still could.
As if anyone would believe anything the smirky-faced Bob Woodward would say.
Ford was too ill to attend Reagan's funeral last June, too.
LOL, that's the first thing that popped in my head.
Hmmm, never even thought of him. Interesting.
Nixon was already toast by the time Ford became VP.
Agnew resigned on October 10, 1973. Ford was quickly nominated, and took office less than two months later in December 1973.
Vice-president Agnew was mixed up in some scandals of his own and was forced to resign on 10 October 1973. He pleaded no contest to the charges of income tax evasion.Nixon would be the first president to act under the twenty-fifth Amendment, and offered Ford the job of vice-president. Ford was sworn is as vice-president of the United States on 6 December 1973, and on 9 August 1974 Ford became the thirty-eighth president after Nixon who was also forced to resign.
What if Woodward dies first? That would be a shame.
The "Deep Throat is dying" rumors are coming from John Dean, who is trying to sell his book. Consider the source.
Deep Throat is almost certainly nearing the end of his life, whoever he is. Woodward and Bernstein have described him as having a prominent position in the executive branch in 1972. If that's the case, he would not have been a youngster then.
In a recent interview tied to the opening of the University of Texas collection of Watergate investigation materials, Woodward said that he had not expected to have to keep the secret this long, but that people live longer than they used to.
So, yes, Deep Throat is dying. We all are.
I know 3 people who were wrong.
Bob Hope actually survived the author of his obituary in the New York Times.
Cocaine?
Based on what?
We will see.
This is pretty interesting, dateline Friday:

University of Texas to Unveil Woodward-Bernstein Collection
Can't wait for the headline: Deep Throat Croaks...
Nixon was great-?
How can it be Ford. W and B say its someone near to death. Don't you think that if Ford is near to death it would be pretty mainstream news? I know he wasn't Reagan or anything but a former president next to death would generate some headlines.
Do you ever make sense?
How can someone whose identity is only known to Woodward be declared close to death if nobody knows who he is? Anyway, unless Woodward himself is on the skids, I'm not listening.
