I'll admit that during some of the extended applause, I switched quickly to ESPN to make sure that Wake Forest was still beating Duke.

Was Idol on last night? I didn't watch either. Well, ok, I watched about 5 minutes of the president. But with all the applause lines and such, it seemed a waste of time. What's the point? I can read the speech later, and we already knew what policy positions he would take. That was my thought, anyway. I heard this morning on the radio that a poll says 8 out of 10 who watched approved. I guess only 50% of the dems watched.

In the central time zone, Idol ended before the President's speech began. Many then switched from Fox TV to Fox Cable as Fox Cable is more news oriented.

They missed out, it was a fantastic, historical speech. Bush at this best defining where the country is going.

Big audience for "Idol" here.

This is shocking to Drudge, for what reason?

I'd like to see the total numbers. I absolutely will not watch network coverage if it's available on Fox or CSpan. Also remember that Fox beat all the networks in ratings during the Republican Convention, and performed on a par with them during the Rat convention.

I think this is a manufactured story. AmIdol was carried on one channel, SOTU on probably eleven or twelve.

I'll sheepishly admit that I was very glad I was able to see last night's SMALLVILLE too. :^)

One hour of IDOL on one network pulled a higher ratings average than 2 hours of STATE OF THE UNION -- on three networks! ............. STATE OF THE UNION TOTAL BROADCAST NETWORK AVG [9-11 PM ET]

The key word is "Broadcast".

How many watched it on cable networks?

The Broadcast Networks are dying dinosaurs.

This is a bit misleading. Idol was on 8:00 pm est. The SOTU was on at 9:00.

They were not in direct competition. Idol got more ratings in its time period than the SOTU got in it's time period.

Not on at the same time....
What is the point of putting a siren up over that?

"...it was a fantastic, historical speech."

Ronald Reagan will always be my hero, but last night's SOU was the best I've ever heard.

This hardly warrents a "Drudge Siren". I think if you are going to make this comparison, you also need to add in the cable nets as well. I'd be willing to bet Foxnews beat out abc/cbs/nbc combined.

Really? LOL!

Drudge must be having a slow morning. This type of stunt implies they went head to head and SOU lost across the board. Shame on him.

That's exactly right. He'll probably read the comments here, realize how ridiculous his headline is and tone it down before noon.
