Ned stands front and center in Sunday's edition of "The Simpsons" when, in an unlikely collaboration with Homer, he co-produces the Super Bowl halftime show as (what else?) a biblical pageant. Homer portrays Noah. The stadium is flooded from a Duff's Beer blimp. Ned preaches the Word. Take that, Janet Jackson.

Haven't watched the show in two years. Too chocked full of boring leftist drivel now.

A self-serving article fueled by promoting the episode and liberal paranoia. I'm sure the crew of The Simpsons is just itching to jump on the 'values' bandwagon, or were all closet Bush voters.
I'm waiting for the all Hans Moleman episode.

I bet Ned turns out to be the gay one.

Actually, The Simpsons have been on the values band wagon for a long time.

I know a bloke who looks like Ned Flanders.
He's nauseating.
Ned is less judgemental. ;-)

Where else could you go on TV to find a heterosexual married couple raising their three biological children? Dad works, mom is (mostly) stay-at-home.

If that's their buildup of him, my thought was the same as yours.

Oddly, the only time I watch the show is at church. Our pastor uses the Simpsons for his contemporary "presentation" (ie sermon)

The gay one is Monty Burns's secretary and its been known for years (just not to the characters on the show). Ned has always been the perfect Christian guy. Nice, neat, clean, never swears and always tries to do right. He comes along with all the stereotypes too, just like Krusty (Jewish) or Apu (Indian "boy Apu, when they were passing out religions you got hosed" Homer). At least Ned is buff and the women fawn over him when he is working in the yard without his shirt (unknown to him).
The Simpson rules and its very balanced in its comedy. They gave us "Its Jimmy Carter, history's greatest monster!"
and from Bill Clinton "Lisa just remember, if you don't win, just keep complaining until someone changes the results into your favor."
Lisa; " Thats a pretty lousy lesson"
Bill "Yeah, well I'm a pretty lousy President"

It's OK. He usually uses a Simpson clip and a movie. It's different. I like different. Some have been really convicting and some inspiring.

There must be some kind of "battered Christian" syndrome that makes people want to find some sort of positive spiritual component in "The Simpsons." It ain't there. The only major religion they haven't ripped on is Islam.
(They want to be hip and irreverent, but not so hip and irreverent as to have a fatwa slapped on 'em.)
To: normy
I love The Simpsons for all of the reasons you stated and more.
A lot of Freepers don't get the irony, and the fact that the show actually pokes fun at a lot of the things we hate. (Like Smithers being gay and having the hots for Mr. burns... what could be sillier or more pathetic than that? )
I'd like to have Ned as my neighbor. He keeps his yard up, his kids are well behaved, and if he borrows a tool, he'll return it. I'm not a Christian, but he and I could sit and have a beer together, and unlike Homer, I'd actually pick up the tab more often than not.

Are you kidding? Ned won't eat foot-long hot dogs because they make him uncomfortable.
