CAPITOL HILL Senate Democrats won't filibuster the nomination of Alberto Gonzales to be attorney general. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid says there's a general feeling among Democrats that "this wasn't the time" to filibuster. Reid says he expects less than half the Senate Democrats to vote to confirm Gonzales.
Many Democrats have been sharply critical of Gonzales, especially over his role in developing the Bush administration's policies on treating foreign detainees. Some believe he is directly linked with prisoner abuses that occurred at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, as well as in Afghanistan and at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
The Senate will debate Gonzales' nomination for ten hours, meaning a confirmation vote will occur in the next day or two.
"Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid says there's a general feeling among Democrats that "this wasn't the time" to filibuster."
I think they're saving their 'political capital' for when Bush re-nominates federal judges or supreme court justices.
I have recommended to the Demo Rat Senator from my State that they change the name of their party, to The Jackass Party.
They were NEVER serious about this filibuster.
I think you are confused.
Absolutely. It seems to be a setup by the Dems because really this guy has left leaning ideology. I personally wouldn't care if he weren't nominated. Just remember, there will be no true conservative Supreme Court when GW leaves. All your money time & votes got you NADA for 8 yrs of so-called conservative leadership. IMO it was designed that way from the beginning.
The donkey blinks again.
Not really. They just feel they would like to shoot their wad at a judicial nominee, and they don't want the filibuster to become overused. They are waiting for better prey.
NO progress for America
NO sense of fair play
NO respect for the office of the presidency
NO respect for the political process
NO respect for the people living in tyranny depending on us.
