CAPITOL HILL Senate Democrats won't filibuster the nomination of Alberto Gonzales to be attorney general. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid says there's a general feeling among Democrats that "this wasn't the time" to filibuster. Reid says he expects less than half the Senate Democrats to vote to confirm Gonzales.
Many Democrats have been sharply critical of Gonzales, especially over his role in developing the Bush administration's policies on treating foreign detainees. Some believe he is directly linked with prisoner abuses that occurred at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, as well as in Afghanistan and at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
The Senate will debate Gonzales' nomination for ten hours, meaning a confirmation vote will occur in the next day or two.
Ha! I'm guessing they may be afraid to use this toy casually again, lest Dr Frist break it for them.
More wrist slitting at the DUmp.
Oh my gosh, they are actually showing some sense. They must have gotten some polling data that told them most of the country is fed up with their nonsense - in addition to the one taken last November 2nd!
Gee, I wonder which way Robert KKK Byrd is voting.
Apply well seasoned tag line and enjoy......................>
The latest election seems to have taken the wind out of their sails!!
Anyone, including Democrats, who saw Reid's performance on Monday along with Nancy Pelosi must have been embarrassed that we even have such leadership in the U.S. Congress. The real reason the Senate won't filibuster is that they know they have less than a snowball's chance in hell that they can pull it off.
Probably has to do with this:

Many democrats support the terrorists and that is the bottom line.
I called Reid's office and told the woman I was embarrassed to have him as my senator.
Gee, I wonder which way Robert KKK Byrd is voting.
I'm just waiting for him to start busting out with, "I've known 'white wetbacks' too".
I am so giddy over how these idiots are acting. They are so blind to their own hatred they don't even realize how immature they appear.
Keep it up RATS. 2006 is right around the corner!!!!!!!!!!
What did she say in return?
I wish you were right - but some lib friend believe that they need to do anything short of violence to 'stop' Bush. :-(
The success of the Iraq elections may have something to do with this decision.
I would also imagine that we are going to get our cake and eat it too on this nominee.
The democrats are going to spend ten hours tomorrow hammering the snot out of Gonzales, the second high profile, but qualified, minority appointee.
As a campaign issue, there is nothing better than to play all of this back to both constituencies - showing the D's to be racists when the chips are down, and historic gains are to be really within grasp.
Gonzales will still be confirmed, with many D's going on record as having voted against both Rice and Gonzales.
Plus, no filibuster.
If GWB can find some very conservative jurists of color to fill the SCOTUS spots, then the D's can kiss both the Supreme Court and the midterm elections goodbye.
"Judge Gonzales has been endorsed by every major Latino organization in this country, including the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), National Hispanic Bar Association, The Latino Coalition, National Association of Latino Elected Officials (NALEO), National Council of La Raza (NCLR), League of Latin American Citizens (LULAC), National Association of Hispanic Publishers, National Association of Hispanic Firefighters, Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, Hispanic Business Roundtable, MANA, A National Latina Organization, and the New American Alliance, among others."

Unfortunately, they do not separate President Bush from the true interests of democract and this country.
This is a cabinet official. They obviously didn't have enough support to make a filibuster work. Or they would have.
