Jesse Helms biggest fear? Bill Clinton running the United Nations
Star-Sentinel ^ | February 1, 2005 | Paul Nowell

In the letter, U.S. Sen. Jesse Helms, the 83-year-old Republican, who left office in 2003 after five terms, worries that the former president has aspirations to lead the U.N. after Kofi Annan retires next year.

``I'm sure you might agree that putting a left-wing, undisciplined and ethically challenged former President of the United States into a position of such power would be a tragic mistake,'' Helms writes.

The Associated Press obtained a copy of the letter Tuesday. It contains a petition that asks President Bush to ``rebuke all efforts by Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, and every other liberal in Congress to push for Bill Clinton to become Secretary-General of the United Nations.''

A spokesman for Clinton did not immediately return a call seeking comment Tuesday and the former president has said nothing publicly about wanting to lead the U.N.

I miss Jesse Helms. When it came to those @#!%ing trade treaties and other anti-soverignty measures, I could count on him to tell them all NO. That even includes those in his own party.

OK, I know I risk being flamed into oblivion, but am I the only one who sees at least SOME value to having a former US president running the UN? Sure he's on the nominal "other side" of the partisan divide, but in the larger picture he's an American, and more likely to be pro-US in his administration.+ No? I think it's for this very reason that he will never ever become Sec. General anyway.

The last thing the UN needs is Clinton.

The UN needs someone with credibility to clean up the corruption, not a serial perjurer who's administration had more than it's share of corruption scandals.

While it's true that none of those scandals could be tied directly to Clinton, at a minimum it shows he's a bad judge of character, and has low standards for the integrity of those he deals with.

I'm not going to flame you, but what you're not understanding here is that ANY U.N. Secretary General is going to look after THEIR OWN BEST INTEREST, not that of the country they hail from, not that of the country or countries who support their election to the position of UNSG, and as we have seen already, once a Secretary General is in place, it is damn hard to hold them accountable, just look at Kofi Anus' zigging and zagging to evade this Oil-For-Fraud scandal, just to name ONE abuse of power.

As for Bill Clinton being 'pro-US'? Don't kid yourself my friend, Bill Clinton is only one 'pro', and that is 'pro-Clinton', and the only OTHER 'pro' he lives by is the 'quid pro quo', as in if you scratch his back, he'll scratch yours. His years of corruption as the Governor of Arkansas is testament enough to prove him totally unsuitable for any leadership position except perhaps for a prison prayer circle. The fact that Clinton was elected twice only demonstrates that the Republican Party was inept in '92, and totally brain dead in '96. And even with such GOP incompetence in those elections, it took the efforts of the Texas Madman Ross Perot and his puerile Reform Party to sap off enough conservative votes to give Clinton the White House.

No, Bill Clinton as UNSG would be like the College of Cardinals electing John Gotti as Pope after the first Pope John Paul died.

Jesse Helms is a national treasure, and when we lose him, it will be like Ronald Reagan dying all over again. Helms is a patriot in the finest tradition of conservative values.

God Bless Jesse!

Bill Clinton would be a great UN leader!

He's an expert at passivism and not doing anything about threats and problems.

It's never been done before; and the next time there is an opening, it's suppose to be from the Southern Hemisphere, South American, I think.

Why Bush continues to try to kiss up to socialist democrats totally amazes me. Why this love to appease these pigs is beyond rational thinking. Bush continues to "think" that by giving them something it will make a difference. He should have learned you cannot negotiate with the enemy. That you have to fight for total victory, or just not fight at all. This trying to win part of the battle only leads to more and more casualties. Klinton is a fool. A deadbeat. A liar. A womanizer. A thief. A crook. An impeached president. Why the hell do they want to endorse him to run the scummy UN?

Clinton will be Secretary General of the UN. It was obvious from the day they moved to NY. That's the ONLY reason they would have moved to NY. He is power hungry, and so is his wife. She will be President of the US and he will head the UN. NOTHING is impossible for those two. They will break or fix ANY rule/law to make it possible. Can you say King Bill and Queen Hillary? LOL

Let's see, a supremely malignant narcissist who has no morals and desires power at all cost, no I do NOT see ANY value to having this evil man in any position of power.

The thing the UN needs most is a clintoon to succeed the present sec gen of the UN. The best hope for the destruction of this monstrosity is for more corrupt leadership. The UN was started by a bunch of Roosevelt socialists and its about time for its dismantling.

Get the USA out of th UN and the UN out of the USA.
