Don't help, Border Patrol says

Sector Chief Michael Nicley said volunteers who try to patrol the area could hinder operations and draw away Border Patrol agents from priorities if they encounter problems.

The Minuteman Project, headed by Jim Gilchrist in California, plans to bring volunteers in April for a monthlong air and ground patrol of Cochise County.

The 83 miles of Cochise County's border with Mexico are among the busiest for apprehending illegal immigrants.

Nicley said he has concerns about the air operations being proposed by the Minuteman Project since part of the airspace in Cochise County is earmarked for the Border Patrol.

Also, Nicley said the project's volunteers are not trained in law enforcement.

Instead of going someplace where you are not welcome, why don't you help your local police bust the employers of illegals in your town?

The Bush administration reversed the Clinton policy so now they can. The CBP will even train them.

Or perhaps your own neighbors don't agree with you either.

In this case, the race card is highly amusing. Chris Simcox's previous wife is black; my late wife was Korean. The MMP is multi-ethnic (to include two Arab-Americans) and a bachelors degree looks like an entry-level requirement. Lots of retired military, lots of retired law enforcement. Lots of currently active LEOs who see this as a learning experience. Maybe we should charge tuition.

If the Feds refuse to abide by the wishes of the taxpaying citizens in securing our country when all sorts of spies, etc. are coming over our borders, what else is there to do but for citizens to lawfully patrol that area ?

Well there is a problem with what you purpose. Keep the all the illegals in your home town along with your peace and quite, kids, dogs, etc.

Illegals don't stay in your home town do they, no they travel to and pollute the volunteers home towns costing a small fortune for their care, feeding, education, medical bills, housing, and services, including WIC, Medicare, Welfare.

It would be nice if the border patrol were allowed to do their jobs, but they are not doing the job. So it would seem that some American citizens feel the need to take it upon themselves to stop this invasion that the congress is charged with protecting us from, according to the Constitution, a obligation they have chosen to turn their backs on.

I would think that a wait and see if citizens can get the job done in a sane manner before getting in a twist about it. Not trained in law enforcement? If what is happening to our borders is an example of the best that law enforcement training provides then it's a dirty joke.

>they are American heroes just trying to protect our borders, when neither side of the political spectrum is
willing to do what it takes...<

It gets curiouser and curiouser, doesn't it? God bless and protect the Minutemen!

By the way...

Glenn took the wraps off Border Hawk III this evening. It will fly its first operational mission in the next few days.

That's one pretty bird - extremely stable and quiet if I'm looking at it right (composites, computer design, etc.). If the flex on the landing gear on unexpected terrain (cacti, rocks, Mexicans) performs well I think you have an excelent craft there.

You folks don't need to get me wrong either i have nothing at all against someone who comes in the country legally to work ! my beef is the illegal ones who screw one who want to do the right thing if we were breaking their laws we would be in a pit with no daylight !

If you support a group of citizens going down to Arizona (where they're not welcomed) and enforcing the immigration laws, why don't you get your local police to enforce the immigration laws in your home town?

They can you know? And the CBP will train them for free. Look how much money you would save by driving the ilkegsls out of your town.

They know who the employers of illegals are. Why don't you demand that they bust the employers instead of demanding that Congress throw more money away on the border?

Cops also tell us that we should roll over and give muggers and thieves what they want.

I don't think I'll do that, either.

If you can't do the job, We The People will. And oh, by the way, if you can't do the job - you're fired! We're kind of tired of a Big Stupid Government that spends trillions but can't seem to do straightforward work.

What's Spanish for "Would you like fries with that?" People who can't do the job they have may need to seek another line of work.

I talk to them almost daily, and they tell me they don't mind.

Of course, if your not one of them, they just might give the CBP PC answer.

When I talk to them, they know they don't have to put up a front to the public.

You got it right. Capabilities about equal to the Army's new Shadow 200, but at a fraction of the price. The free enterprise system at its finest. This one is optimized for surveillance.

I'm working on what's needed to arm it with something unpleasant.

We have between 10,000 and 11,000, give or take a few hundred.

We really don't need anymore. If the DHS management would let the BP off it's leash, they would be much more effective.
