I bought a Honda in 2003 which was made in Alabama with over 60% US-made parts. I bought an Acura in 2004 which was made in Ohio with over 65% US-made parts.Yeah, I'm not sure what is considered "made in the USA" anymore.
The profits go to Japan. To their Japanese owners. Same as we used to do when US companies owned tin and copper mines in Bolivia. We employed Bolivian labor.

Yes, the profits go to the shareholders, who, I'm sure, are mostly Japanese. However, thousands of Americans are employed by the plants here and that's a lot of money still in our economy. Would you rather Toyota had all their plants in Japan? Of course, the only reason they have the plants here, probably, is that if they tried to ship the cars whole to the US to sell, by the time all of the duties were levied the cars would be too expensive to sell here.
The fact is that companies like Toyota and Honda sell well here because they make a good product for a reasonable price. If American companies want to compete, they need to do the same thing (or better).
