Those are determined voters. In this country if there's more than a ten minute wait to vote the Dems are screaming voter intimidation.

Despite the heavy attacks that began two hours after polls opened, turnout was brisk in many Shiite Muslim and mixed Shiite-Sunni neighbourhoods, both in Baghdad and in southern cities like Basra.

(snip)

Even in the small town of Askan in the so-called ”triangle of death” south of Baghdad – a mixed Sunni-Shiite area – 20 people waited in line at each of several polling centres. More walked toward the polls.

(snip)

By midday, however, hundreds of people were voting in Samarra and several hundred people were voting on Mosul’s eastern side, which includes both Kurdish and Arab neighbourhoods, witnesses said.

(snip)

Across Iraq, joy broke out in places as the day went on. At one polling place in Baghdad, Iraqi soldiers and voters joined hands in a dance.

(snip)

One polling site in Baghdad ran out of ballots and was trying to get more, US officials said.

At another in eastern Baghdad, an Iraqi policeman in a black ski mask tucked his AK-47 assualt rifle under one arm and held the hand of an elderly blind woman to guide her to the polls.

(snip)

Even as the attacks raged nearby, voters turned out in large numbers in the poor Shiite community of Jisr Diyala in eastern Baghdad, with the number of voters increasing as the morning wore on.

Those inked index fingers are a powerful symbol. Too bad it wasn't middle fingers.

Isn't this incredible? We have forgotten how powerful the right to vote is, because it is so easy for us. This must remind us that the soil in which our freedom grew was fertilized with the blood of brave men willing to die for liberty. Now the same fruit will grow in Iraq. Amazing.

In fact, the next time Iraq is debated in the Senate, all the Republicans should show up with inked index fingers.

Fox on the ground: someone blew themselves up and the line of voters continued, just WALKING OVER THEM

Take that liberals!

Figuratively speaking that is what we have been doing here as well.

How long before msm starts crying that the government in Iraq is`nt doing enough about jobs, health care, poverty etc.

12% higher turnout than in our own 2004 election and a record compared with voter turnout in many advanced European countries. The shibboleth Arabs are not ready for the civics of choosing their own leaders has now been laid to rest forever. That a 72% thumping of the Baathist/Al Qaeda terrorist insurgents by the Iraqi people!

Oh, I REALLY like that idea. Also, try this. You think President Bush should dip his index finger in ink for the state of the union address next week? Just a thought.
