Bank of America Eliminates Money Transfer Fees to Mexico

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Bank of America Corp., hoping to grab a larger share of the U.S.-Mexican financial services market, will drop all foreign exchange and other transfer fees between the two countries, the bank said Thursday.

Starting in Chicago, the Charlotte-based bank will offer account holders free money transfers between the two countries by the end of the year. Other customers will pay a reduced fee until the program rolls out nationwide in late 2005.

"Our customers have identified this need, and we are responding," said Liam McGee, the bank's consumer and small business president.

According to the United Nations, U.S. consumers sent $13.9 billion to Mexico in 2003 through remittances.

"Remittances to Mexico and the fees charged have been an issue we've been discussing for some time," said Janet Murguia, executive director and chief operating officer of the National Council of La Raza. "The elimination of fees is a great benefit to those hardworking immigrants who save their money to provide for families back home."

Bank of America opened more than 1 million checking accounts for Hispanic customers in 2004.

Yep, I'm betting El Presidente is on the take just like Krinton. The only difference is that Jorge Boosh is in Vicente Fox's front pocket instead of Jiang Zemin's.

Proof of this is in the fact that most citizens, like yourself, see this migration into our country as a big negative, when in fact it is most likely one of a handful of things keeping us from complete and utter failure as a nation.

It IS a big negative for the American taxpayer who is paying to subsidize the lives of illegals and their multiple offspring in this nation. How is it they keep the nation running, when they can't even run their own households? When so few pay any taxes at all? How is it the nation can get along without American citizens getting paid a decent wage and paying taxes on that? Something stinks here. This doesn't pass the smell test.

Nobody has noticed that sentence yet?

Huge red flags went up for me.

How is the UN involved in tracking money transfers?

Why do so many FReepers assume the remittance services of a real bank will only be used by illegal aliens? Not everyone who sends money back to Mexico is an illegal immigrant. According to the 2000 Census, there were approximately 3.87 million Mexican-born persons legally living in the United States in 2000. That's more people than live inside the boundaries of every U.S. city other than New York City, and more people than live in all but the 12 largest metropolitan areas. It's a substantial market any bank would be foolish not to try to tap.

Do we have any statistics on how many illegal aliens actually keep bank accounts? I'd suspect the number is small.

Money transfers do not require an account. Apples and Oranges. Blackbird.

It's the elephant's nose under the tent deal. The public won't realize the extent of the violation of our sovereign rights until it's too late. Eleven million already here. We're being told it's too late, and that the border is 'indefensible', so why not just do away with it? Free, unfettered access to the US for everybody in the hemisphere. Somehow, though, free, unfettered passage to Mexico and points south isn't in their best interest. Migration, invasion, and Fox smokes the victory cigar.

Its not madness, its good business.

B of A has bought into a Mexican bank. Many US banks have, it is allowable under NAFTA.

If the money is transferred to Mexico thru B of A, the recipient is more likely to keep the money in that bank.

TAX TAX TAX these exchanges!!

No brainer--a tax that cannot hurt Americans or American business. The money is earned here, and leaves to be spent in Mexico. TAX it, and TAX it heavily. 10-20% sounds good for a start.

"Is the subject matter embarassing to folks around here?"

I've got an idea. Why don't we just give them the whole d*mn country and they and the socialist RATs can have their little imaginary utopia. The conservatives can take over Mexico, throw out Fox and his bandits, and start over. It shouldn't be too hard since he is trying to export the whole d**n Mexican population to America. Of course, America might not look so attractive to them when the ones that are paying for all the freedies are gone.

The bankers want to finance these people's homes, their cars, and their lives and put "new money" into existence to pay taxes to pay for the war and to keep the status quo.

See if all the libs would adopt all the illegals (because they want them so much),and invite them into there homes, and place them on there health care plans they would have little time to spew crap. They would be to busy trying to learn spanish and how to keep from getting hit by a car while picnicing on the side of the interstate. I realize things are never going to be the same and every culture will have some impact. But we do need to protect the American dream for Americans.

Answer this for me. Why should it cost me $10.00 to send money to a Bank in Indiana, well within the boundries of America, but nothing to send it to Mexico, and why only Mexico, why not Thailand, China, the Philippines, Australia or anywhere in Europe?
