Nader rails against Democrats, Iraq war
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 1/26/5 | Carla Marinucci

Posted on 01/26/2005 8:01:24 AM PST by SmithL

Berkeley -- Former presidential candidate Ralph Nader slammed Democratic politicians for failing to take President Bush to task on a host of issues including the war in Iraq Tuesday, and he urged progressives and liberals to fire up their fervor and "reactivate the anti-war movement.''

Nader, who launched a statewide tour of California this week, was greeted with a standing ovation by several hundred people Tuesday evening at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Berkeley, where he exhorted them to stand against "the quagmire in Iraq ... $300 billion to destroy a nation in the name of liberating them.''

Progressives have been lulled into "surrender instead of resistance,'' said Nader, the former Green Party and independent candidate for president who also spoke in San Francisco Tuesday night. "If you cannot beat a president ... that plunged our nation into a war that was unconstitutional, what good are you? What do you expect to give the American people," he said of the Democrats.

Republicans, Nader said, "taunt liberals, they taunt liberalism."

Yet Democrats, he said, sit in silence, willing to settle for candidates who don't champion their real progressive beliefs.

"There are a lot of lessons to be learned from (the election of) 2004 ... If you go through political processes with low expectations, there are a lot of politicians who will accommodate you,'' Nader said, criticizing the party's presidential candidate, Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts.

At least Nader is consistent in his beliefs.

"In Berkeley, students donated $5 and others kicked in $10 and up to help pay for the bills, an effort Nader said would help him 'wind down, and then ramp up.'"

Pathetic. He might as well stand on the street corner

Heh heh...
Former presidential candidate Ralph Nader slammed Democratic politicians for failing to take President Bush to task on a host of issues including the war in Iraq...
Well, I guess Nader watched a different primary and election race than I did.
urged progressives and liberals to fire up their fervor and "reactivate the anti-war movement."
By "anti-war movement", the Jew-hating Arab lawyer means "anti-Israel, blame America" movement. I don't think it's completely gone (other than in the head), it's just not as popular as Nader likes to dream the movement against Vietnam was. I guess he missed the fact that the DNC wanted and got an ex-member of VVAW as its candidate.
"the quagmire in Iraq ... $300 billion to destroy a nation in the name of liberating them."
If the US had wanted to destroy Iraq, Iraq would have been erased from the map. By this time in the Democratic Party's Vietnam war -- during which time the US operated in only half of the country, the northern part having been designated a separate regime -- there were far more than 1200 US KIA, no end in sight, no plan for any end, no plan for achieving victory...
"If you cannot beat a president ... that plunged our nation into a war that was unconstitutional, what good are you? What do you expect to give the American people," he said of the Democrats.
For that matter, if you can't figure out what it means to be constitutional vs unconstitutional, and keep listening to self-important a-holes who also don't know the difference, and oppose candidates based on their party brand name, what good are you? What do you expect to give the American people?
Republicans, Nader said, "taunt liberals, they taunt liberalism."
By taunt, Nader means "utterly ignore the concerns of". Most of the frustration of the brain-dead partisan hacks more often known as liberals comes from their growing awareness that they are no longer in charge, and never were in the majority, having to rely on gerrymandering, ballot-box-stuffing, packed courts, lawsuits, and other Soviet-style tricks.

I'm reminded here of the late Sam Kinison, who in his standup once berated the long-dead deposed leader of the USSR, Khruschev, by quoting his shoe-banging speech at the UN. "'Communism is the wave of the future!' Yeah? Here's the wave. So long. Nice try."
"If you go through political processes with low expectations, there are a lot of politicians who will accommodate you," Nader said, criticizing the party's presidential candidate, Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts.
Political analysts are puzzled by Nader's continuous decline in popularity. [smirk]

Nader, although we may not vote for him, is an influential figure in today's politics, especially the youth who may may take him too literally.... but realistically, there needs to be someone who can come right out in interviews and say what they want to say, cut and dry, no BS. I can respect the fact that he voices his true opinion on Iraq, and its an opinion that really cannot be denied. Yeah, $300 billion is quite the number, it shouldn't matter which political side you may be on.... that's a lot of money, period. Over $100 million a day?... yeah, it's a lot of money. What if that kind of money would be directed towards basic medical and environmental research instead?... education maybe? Issues loom out there that are large and underfunded, put some of our money back where it belongs. Cheers.

People like Nader are why we have just 20 percent of our electricity provided by nuclear reactors. If there is a good issue to demagogue, Nader can demagogue it.

Ahh nuclear energy, how incredible! I think 20 percent isn't enough, bring on the nuclear plants once again. What in the world is your big beef with nuclear power? And don't jump into waste management, we spent enough money figuring out what to do with that recently, that's covered. So besides the waste, lay it on me! :-)

I'm a big fan of nuclear. Nader and his clowns have been on the forefront of blocking cheap power.

"the quagmire in Iraq ... $300 billion to destroy a nation in the name of liberating them."
If the US had wanted to destroy Iraq, Iraq would have been erased from the map.

The trouble with most of the left is they know so little about the military, that they really don't understand just how powerful the US military is.

I guess that church finds preaching the Gospel to be a waste of time - let's invite socialists to come and preach hatred from pulpit instead.

The Episcopal Church leadership is devoted to the destruction of Israel as well.
