Commuter train derails in Glendale
Associated Press
GLENDALE, Calif. - A Metrolink commuter train derailed early Wednesday in this Los Angeles suburb, and firefighters were searching through the wreckage.
Television reports showed smoke coming from twisted wreckage at the scene of the crash, where two separate trains could be seen derailed.
The derailment in this Los Angeles suburb was near San Fernando Road and Chevy Chase Boulevard.

Can you cite one fact that would indicate to a sane reasonable person that the man is more likely than not to be in this country illegally?
1. The majority of people with Hispanic names are not immigrants.
2. The majority of immigrants are not illegal.
3. The majority of mass murders are not Hispanic, not immigrants, nor illegal.
4. The press does not normally mention immigration status, religious affiliation, marital status, military status, etc... unless it is newsworthy or relevant. The fact that the press has not said anything about military service would not indicate that he is in the military would it?
I'll accept your feigned ignorance as an admission that you refuse to intelligently discuss the illegal immigration issue.
No, I'm absolutely serious.
What makes you suspect a guy with a driver's license, expensive SUV, and a published address/phone# is an illegal alien?
(We're not discussing the illegal immigration issue here. We're discussing why so many think this particular guy is an illegal immigrant.)
RE: described as a devotee of ancient Mexican rituals
Translation from PCese - he had read the Carlos Castaneda books and had become a self styled "Yaqui shaman," ingesting large quantities of Psylocyben mushrooms and Peyote cactus, thereby frying his brain.
It could actually be a case of deassimilation. He strikes me as being a native born (probably first generation) guy who was influenced by gang culture and drugs as a youth.
Actually, as more facts become available, my initial suspicion appears to be less probable. Nevertheless, it was a valid suspicion at the time it was made. Don't you agree?
No, I don't agree. There was nothing, ever, which indictated he was an illegal immigrant. There are a great many Hispanics in California, most of them citizens or legal immigrants. Lacking any supporting facts whatsoever, your suspicion was not valid.
Another thought. From the get go, I was asking myself, how would someone pick an obscure grade crossing that few who go flying by on the 5 even know about let alone how to get to? Most people who ever would have gotten off the freeway around there, who did not live in the immediate area, would probably know about the Los Feliz crossing but not the smaller Chevy Chase one. I only know about it from complete happenstance, due to the fact that some friends of ours used to live just east of there (in that nice pocket of homes between the area this happened and central Pasadena) as well as having done some business in the area. So, I wonder if this guy being in the building trades had gotten him familiar with the backstreets, for example, to go to one of the small shops on the E side of the tracks, to buy some custom fitting or some such.... just a thought.
sorry, but that was an old beater Jeep Cherokee....not a Grand Cherokee.
Let's hang him first for what he did, then find out if he was legal, illegal or an inbetweener.
An old Jeep Cherokee (not the newer Grand Cherokee) is not a "big" "expensive" SUV.
An unidentified passenger (not shown) who was injured in a train derailment Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, allegedly wrote on the bottom of his seat with his own blood "I Love My Kids" after being injured in the crash in Glendale, Calif.
Written in his own blood.
And where was it posted about his driver's license? All I heard was they found a license plate with expired tabs.
Go ahead and hang him for what he did. But there's no need to insult all Hispanics in the process.
I clearly see the link between illegal immigration and the bad things that is causes. I just don't see the reverse linkage. Contrary to the belief of your camp, not every bad thing that happens in the US is caused by illegal immigration.
You'd have to look at it in the eyes of a committed bigot to see is as Willie does. Don't lose any sleep over not being able to understand what the hell he is thinking.
I saw reports it was a Chevy Suburban. The facts will sort out.
There's still no indication whatsoever he was an illegal alien.
no habla ingles....
that is enough for me.
That is your misinformed perception.
Nobody in "my camp" claims that.
But it is true that, by definition, illegal immigrants are criminals.
And a significant proportion of them are engaged in other criminal activites ranging from petty theft through drug-smuggling, murder, sex crimes and even terrorist activities.
