I'm sure this is going to happen many times......there are only so many names ....there is bound to be mistakes. WE are talking about humans and error. Gonna happen.

Much as I enjoy Malkin's columns, I think she's stretching it here. There's no central record of deaths for either citizens on non-citizens, so how was INS to know if his survivors didn't tell them?
She might better have remarked on the application's taking (at least) three and a half years to filter through the system.

Do you think the Federal Government should check the death registration of all states? They should check for criminal activity but there would be a large added cost to seeing who has died, and it serves no purpose as they will not appear and the "problem" is solved.
This is only an issue if you really need one.
