TEMPE - Maricopa County health officials are tracking the path of a visiting professor who contracted measles outside the United States and then visited several spots around Arizona.
Starting Jan. 9, the man toured Flagstaff, the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, Sedona, and Arizona State University's main campus in Tempe before checking into the emergency room at Tempe St. Luke's Hospital on Jan. 18.
"A college campus is probably on the bottom of your list for places you would want (measles) to occur," said Doug Campos-Outcalt, interim health officer for the Maricopa County Department of Public Health. "

Sounds like a geologist to me ;)
They also said he spent 4 hours downtown at Phoenix City Hall. Just curious, what country doesn't vaccinate against measles?
I'm surprised to hear that if that's the case.
I've never been vaccinated against measles. Of course, I had my bout with the illness as a young child.
It can be very serious in adults, often leading to brain inflammation and other nasty complications.
"We stopped mandatory vaccinations in 1956 according to the article?"
That's not what the article said. Actually we STARTED measles vaccinations around the. The article said that those born after 1956 WHO HAD NOT been vaccinated were at risk. Those born before 1956 usually have had the illness and are now immune.
"I thought we still vaccinated children for measles, mumps, and rubella? "
We do. The poster misread the article.
Didn't we used to require visitors to this country to have their full immunizations before they came here?
Thanks for the clarification! I posed it as a question 'cause the section read funny to me.
Thanks!
My pleasure.
Our local news said he was at a bar here in Flagstaff, so he must not have felt too bad when he was here! LOL
How to spread a disease, quickly.....ping.
I wonder where he's from??
Thanks for the ping granny. I'm glad you brought this to my attention.
