I've been here in TX for 12 years. Still no "twang." Never will be one, either.

I've reverted to modified Okie since I moved to Oklahoma. I thought I lost that g-dropping thing (goin', fixin' etc) but I was wrong.

But surely you must admit, using "y'all" makes perfect sense, since it fills a gap in the English language (pluralizing "you".) Smoother than the Yankee "You guys".

Born and raised in Philly for 19 years. Join the US Marines, married a Texan and lived in Beaufort, SC for 6 years and Jacksonville, Fl for last 13 years. People from the south keep telling me I have a northern accent.

However, when I first spoke to my new sister in law and told her I was her husbands brother, she said "no you're not" and I asked why she thought that I wasn't her husbands brother, she told me "because you have a southern accent.

go figure
