Last time I went to Scotland, I remember an incident between a local cop and lady which surprised me. A cop was walking his beat, chatting with a fellow on the sidewalk. A car pulled up and parked in a loading zone, downtown Edinburgh.

The driver, a lady, got out of the her car. The cop called her and told her to move her car from the loadling zone. Instead of obeying, she just told him that she was doing a quick stop and kept walking toward her intended store. The cop continued chatting with the other fellow like nothing had happened.

If that had been in LA or Miami, the lady might have had her car impounded and arrested. The friendly relationship between cops and citizens is disappearing rapidly in our country.

Amazing.

In America, this lady would have had lost some teeth after having been slammed onto the pavement.... if she hadn't been shot or tazered outright.

You can shove and cuss at Russian cops for a half hour and not get arrested/assaulted.

The police state mentality of our government has destroyed the very fabric of our culture. Prohibition, alcohol or drugs, is the tool of tyrants.

"The prestige of government has undoubtedly been lowered considerably by the prohibition law. For nothing is more destructive of respect for the government and the law of the land than passing laws which cannot be enforced. It is an open secret that the dangerous increase of crime in this country is closely connected with this." Albert Eintein

The restraint of UK LEOs amazes me. I saw on tv English police chase a motorcyle driving like a bat out of hell. The guy nearly killed himself several times as well as other people.

When he finally stopped the cops ran up to him and gave him "a talking to" and then a ticket. Here in America he would have been maced, beaten with club, cuffed then maced again.

Downtown Edingurgh is not Miami or LA....what a ridiculous comparison. Our cops have to deal with gangs...racial and cultural...ghettos.....etc.

I support our police officers. I want them to be paid and trained better. I believe in holding them accountable, very accountable. But maybe the Scottish officers can be nicer because they don't have a national "War on Drugs" to waste their time with.

Why should she show any respect for the Bobby, they only carry night sticks. Personally, I don't you should get away with blowing off a cop that is enforcing the law.

That is because the enforcement of 'laws' is too arbitrary. We all go racing down the highway without regard to that white sign with the big black numbers. Some of those violators drive cars that say 'state police.' If they were serious about speeding, they'd've required governors on car engines long ago.

The control freaks in government have created so many laws and regulations that it is impossible to enforce them.

We fear the police because they could have a bad hair day and ticket/arrest/beat you on any number of 'legal grounds.' Too many 'cops' enjoy this arbitrary authority -- we never know which one will and which one won't bother us over laws that are largely ignored -- unless we bribe them somehow. Have you tried to get on a plane lately?
