The first family attended church this morning. Afterwards, the President headed to Camp David where he was to meet with his advisors to work on his State of the Union Address.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: At this second gathering, our duties are defined not by the words I use, but by the history we have seen together. For a half century, America defended our own freedom by standing watch on distant borders. After the shipwreck of communism came years of relative quiet, years of repose, years of sabbatical - and then there came a day of fire.
Some, I know, have questioned the global appeal of liberty - though this time in history, four decades defined by the swiftest advance of freedom ever seen, is an odd time for doubt. Americans, of all people, should never be surprised by the power of our ideals. Eventually, the call of freedom comes to every mind and every soul. We do not accept the existence of permanent tyranny because we do not accept the possibility of permanent slavery. Liberty will come to those who love it.
President George W. Bush, 2nd Inaugural Address, January 20, 2005
I'm glad to see your post. I'm American, and I lived in Vancouver for a year. That's a gorgeous city. But I really didn't like the political system.
The medical system was really annoying to the Americans. I remember one time when an American colleague had to fly his 7 year old daughter to the US to get her broken arm set. Granted, it wasn't life threatening, and she wasn't Canadian, but surely there should have been some way to treat her.
There are many in the US who want a medical system like Canada's, but I hope they don't prevail.
Juliette has set my teeth on edge the last couple of weeks too. She and the blonde reporterette who gives the hour and half-hour updates....I think it's Paige Hopkins(??) have been screeching like a couple of junior high girls the past couple of weekends.
And those men are just total losers. Hard to know which is worse, Mike or Julian. Aaaack.
A good reminder for our prayer efforts, thanks!
It looks wonderful, if enormously starchy. I gained three pounds just reading that recipe.
Too much work, though. I'll just wait until I can find a restaurant somewhere that serves it! LOL.
Well...Julian is worse. But not by a whole lot!
With the time difference in the UK I am ok because when Fox and Friends comes on it is time to turn over for soccer on Sky Sports
I enjoy the Beltway Boys though
I can't turn off the TV--I'm too addicted! But on the weekend I CAN watch MSNBC. Usually I go to sleep to FOX, and that's why it's on in the AM.
It really bugs me when Juliette wears her fishnet stockings, too. IMO it's just not professional at all. I like most of the others.
As for who is the bigger loser between Mike and Julian . . . it's a really, really close race!
Good grief...whatever you do, don't adopt a health care system like ours.
It is bankrupt, with mediocre care at best. It is front and center in every election, federal or provincial, because it is in such dire condition.
B.C. is very liberal, as is Ontario. Except Ontario voted in Mike Harris, a conservative, for two terms. Ontario is bi-polar. They vote conservative provincially (sometimes) and liberal in federal elections.
The Beltway boys can really crack me up. Yesterday Mort said Laura Bush was "HOT"! They can present their views without being so dang annoying.
My sister has been impressed with the health care system, but then they haven't really had any health problems. But she's also become more liberal in some of her views so maybe the 'bad guys' up there are getting to her.
Health care in America needs a humongous overhaul too! I wish the Pres. would put me on that board. I have lots of ideas.
During the time after 9/11 and the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, I couldn't turn Fox off either. News was breaking so fast that I just hung on the TV to find it out, and pretty much watched it every hour at home. But things have evened out a little bit now, and I don't watch as much. Now I check in to see the Breaking News on FR, and it works better!
It's just not much fun to sit and watch Babs Boxer on TV take her chance to beat up on Condoleeza Rice while she can't really fight back. I sat there and just wished Condi could send for Rummy to come over and give BoxoRocks the verbal beating she deserved.
I will be hanging on the news again a week from now because of the Iraqi elections.
I'd love to see photos of your pigeons. Do you race them now?
When this coming week is it that Condi will finally be confirmed is it tomorrow?
Hi Judy! I also live in Canada. Where are you from? I'm living in Quebec, and I'm a CEGEP (college) student.
He's a very cool fellow. The First Lady reports he has become very protective of the new puppy, Beezie.
