A real harbinger is that the Steelers beat the Eagles when both were at mostly full strength-- and the Patriots just beat the Steelers when both were mostly at full strength.
I didn't get to that one yet, I ran out of energy at 17 last night. Who was their RB? Who were any of their RBs before the sold the farm for Ricky Williams. And the funniest part to be is they never had a running game and they never went for a West Coast Offense which is designed to replace the run with short passes.
Tony Nathan was one of their backs but he was more of a receiver than a runner. That game was the first Super Bowl I was old enough to understand what was going on.
Wasn't too hard to understand, one team was getting whooped and the other team was really good ;)
Well Miami was 16-2 going into that game but San Fran was 17-1! I'm pretty sure that's the best combined record for two teams meeting in a Super Bowl.
Montana said that 1984 49er team was the best he played on. That's saying something considering how good they were in 1989.
LOL!
That was the case in most Super Bowls I watched growing up.
passing near the goal line is also very difficult, due to having 22 large men in a very small area. this increases further with the quality of the defense (a big factor in this case) and the inexperience of your QB (a lesser, but still present factor in this case). while the pass play nearly succeeded, and I think Big Ben made a good decision, I strongly disagree with the call to throw in that instance.
someone else here also noted that passing on 2nd down after afailed run is hardly a surprise in today's NFL.
"Roethlisberger would have been better off trying to score with his legs rather than his arm at that point."
Kordell would have made that play.
your definition of late-season letdown is spurious. did a team that went 10-6, won three playoff games, and lost in the superbowl have a "late-season letdown"? I guess your answer would depend on whether or not you like that team.
the vikings, saints, and packers had "late season let downs" - all lost games that they needed to win. the seahawks had a "late season let down". neither team still playing had a late-season let down, and a loss on sunday doesn't constitute one either - at least not in the eyes of anyone reasonable. hth.
and the dolphins beat the patriots in a game only the patriots needed to win. so it's settled then. the 2-14(?) dolphins are the best team in football.
you asked me what dancing has to do with football, so I showed you. not to mention that I have no idea what that picture has to do with Washington.
In Washington, you could say the same thing about the offense.
However, I'm not convinced of your theory. I'll need examples from the Dolphins, Patriots and Oakland Cheerleader squads to fully investigate your claims.
Yeah, but they would have been 7-9, so it would have been a moot point.
You posted a picture of a Redskins cheerleader and now you ask what the picture has to do with Washington? Odd.
I don't know about that. The Pats defense would have been playing him to run all the way hoping he would throw the ball.
Unfortunately you speak the truth.

In the name of science:
I think this dead horse remains dead - but nevertheless:
Name a team other than the Eagles that lost the NFC championship three years in a row.
irrelevant. plenty of teams have made the playoffs 3 straight years without winning a superbowl - which would mean they lost their last game. this does not mean they have a "usual late season let down." you have an agenda, or an axe to grind, or something - go grind it elsewhere.
and incidentally, if memory serves, the raiders lost a conference championship three years in a row. people always forget to mention how the teams that won those 3 games against the eagles fared (2 SB wins and a 3-point loss). must be that weak NFC.
