As I understand it.... the word 'anti-semitism' was an early version of what we would call today, a "PC" word.
It replaced the crude/nasty expression "JEW HATER" in very early 20th century national socialistic circles in Europe.

The term anti-semitic comes from the Anti-Semitic Party founded by Wilhelm Marr, who sought to differentiate "sciantific" racial hatred of Jews from medieval religious hatred.

You're right in that most Arabs are a Semitic people; I
was using the term as it is used in American common parlance as anti-Jewish or anti-Israeli.
