Peggy's usually right in her assessments.

This time she's wrong.

Sounds like she might be a bit jealous that she didn't get to pen those words

God-drenched?

Nah.

I thought it a damn fine speech, in all ways

My assessment exactly. It was better than anything she ever wrote. Professional jealousy, and it shows.

I don't think she's wrong at all.

This speech was a warning to everyone that we have plans to deal with other Middle Eastern regimes in the name of National Security.

I, too, thought the speech was drenched with references to God. However, unlike Noonan, my admiration for President Bush grew as he made this speech. Not only is the President bold in making such daring proclamations, but giving such a speech with multiple references to God and Christianity, was extremely bold and daring. Newdow attempted to stop this President from swearing his oath on a bible and President Bush did it one better; as if to say "if you don't like the bible, you will absolutely hate this speech."

I have said it before and I will say it again - as I see others are now saying it on this thread. Peggy Noonan sounds bitter and jealous, somewhat peeved that the times are passing her by, that younger and better writers and speechwriters are out there, slaying the false liberal ideas with their pens. I was inspired by the Presidents speech because I too believe in freedom and liberty. I too, believe freedom and liberty belong to everyone and not just to Americans. Isn't that the main reason immigrants come to this country?

Listening to Rush yesterday afternoon and a woman caller stated what was possibly the best line from the President's speech. Self-government is dependent on governing the self. A bitch-slap of an iron fist covered by a velvet glove across the face of the hanger-ons of the 60's and 70's feel good generation. President Bush has never let me down with his speeches.

It's not just the speech she criticizes. She charges they were "defensive" about the choice of music.

Talk about an oddball charge. How about the President wanted honor Hatch and Ashcroft (two songs written or co-written by each respectively).

I thought she was right on with her comments and posted to that effect yesterday.

The meat of her criticism...

...The president's speech seemed rather heavenish. It was a God-drenched speech. This president, who has been accused of giving too much attention to religious imagery and religious thought, has not let the criticism enter him. God was invoked relentlessly. "The Author of Liberty." "God moves and chooses as He wills. We have confidence because freedom is the permanent hope of mankind . . . the longing of the soul." ....

Maybe Satan should run for president.
