President and Mrs. Bush visited the National Archives to view some of our nation's founding documents.
In spite of some Senators Behaving Badly (particularly John Kerry and Barbara Boxer), the Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted Wednesday to confirm Condoleezza Rice as secretary of state; the nomination now goes to the full Senate for a vote.
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island: one day to go till W2!

It's supposed to be above freezing in DC tomorrow -- in fact, close to 40 -- which is fine for those participating in the inauguration. However, I sure would love to have seen the idiots who threw eggs and tomatoes at the presidential limo four years ago have a tomato freeze in their hands. You know -- sort of like that movie a few years ago where the kid gets his tongue frozen to a pole.

THANK YOU for this thread...without it, I wouldn't even know there were pre-inauguration celebrations!

Rumor has it that Bill Clinton will be driving his old El Camino to the the inaugural (complete with AstroTurf). No comment from Hillary.

Hey, I'm taking tomorrow off too.
Of course, I work at home, and ordinarily my boss is mean and strict, but tomorrow I gave her an ultimatum.
It's my party and I'll watch TV all day if I want to...
and I do.

I do hope someone captures pictures of the wonderful outfit Laura wore tonight at the Celebration of Freedom. She was in a winter white suit, coat and wrap and even if it was cashmere, she just had to be freezing. I'd also like to see a photo Bush 41 in his woolen hat pulled over his ears. CNN said etiquette dictates no hats were to be warn and I noticed he removed it when the President and VP arrived but probably thought the h*ll with etiquette and put it back on few minutes later.

That would serve them right .. partially frozen egg glop dripping down their arms ... tee hee.
Here's the guy who has a heroic mission this week .. and I have no doubt he's up to the task. We all remember how tender and protective he was in his very honorable service to Mrs. Reagan as her escort during the Reagan Memorial Week events. Maj. Gen. Galen Jackman
Maj. Gen. Galen B. Jackman stands on a giant map of the inaugural parade route. Inaugural security is expected to be the tightest in history. (That map is amazing.)
Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge inspects heavily armed soldiers as he is briefed by Maj. Gen. Galen Jackman, commander of the military district of Washington, during a tour of the security in place for the inauguration.
Party on!!

Speaking of Brit, I was watching Special Report last nite and I thought this segment with the panel was particularly telling about the democrat mindset.
They were discussing the Social Security reform proposed by President Bush. Mara was really struggling to understand it. She said, "I can understand the prescription card -- people will get the card in a year or so, and he'll get a political boost, but it will be years before any benefit can be seen from this social security reform thing... why would he do it?
She was genuinely confused. In her world, one doesn't do anything unless there is a political benefit.
Even Mort or Fred mentioned "legacy." (obviously mixing Prez Bush up with 42). Finally Brit tentatively posited the possibility that Dubya was doing it because he believed it was right for the country.
Everyone looked confused.
Pathetic.

Maj. Gen. Galen JackmanHe was remarkable in the gentle, yet strong way he escorted Mrs. Reagan. Although it was undoubtedly a sad duty for him, that has to be one of the biggest highlights of his career. I hope he gets his 4th star someday.
