21st century science:

1) Begin with our conclusion: Evolution and its required timeline are known to be true.
2) Absorb new information revealed through seemingly anomalous discoveries.
3) Create wild conjectures, which might explain why the anomalies are perfectly ordinary, provided that 6 or 7 other things are also true, although no such evidence has yet been found.
4) Re-assert the conclusion that Evolution and its required timeline are known to be true.
5) Laugh at the ignorant doubters of Evolution and call them names.

The best case of this is the punctuated equilibrium. Hmmm, lets see we have no evidence that clearly proves, without a doubt, that evolution is true so lets make up a theory to show why there is no evidence for evolution to be found that proves evolution exists but we just can't see it in the evidence. Brilliant...
