Yankee or Dixie? Take the Quiz
Yankee or Dixie ^
Posted on 01/14/2005 11:10:39 AM PST by Hillary's Lovely Legs
Yankee or Dixie? Check on your dialect and see if you might have crossed over to the "other side"! Simply click on the correct answer. As you go, the quiz will automatically interpret each answer to show you what your answer implies about you. When you are done, press Compute My Score. Your score will be calculated as a percentage: 0% is pure Yankee and 100% is pure Dixie.
- Do not change your answer during the test as it will ruin the score. You may do this after scoring is calculated to see the other answers.
- If you make a mistake, hit Clear below to restart the test!
- I regret that I do not have time to entertain discussions about this test or negotiate changes. It is provided strictly as-is and for entertainment purposes only.
- Be aware that television entertainment has a lot of northern dialect in it. This will have more of an influence on you than you expect.
- This test is based on results from the Harvard Computer Society Dialect Survey of 30788 respondents.

"I lived in Lake County for two years cooking on a wood stove. You could make me do it again, but you'd have to have a gun." Well, you gotta have the right kind of wood, and that grows in Texas.

"What the heck is a Roly Poly, Pillbug, Potato bug and Sow bug?) Precisely the question I asked myself, LOL. I'm 45% Yankee, go figure." Oh, you poor things! Let old Uncle TC give you some worldly knowledge:
I've heard them called Roly Polys and Sow bugs, but never Pillbugs or Potato bugs.
They're the little gray cylindrical bugs about half and inch long that have shells which appear to be segmented like an armadillo (and if you don't recognize the description of an armadillo, I can't help you).
If you touch one, it immediately rolls up into a ball, hence, Roly Poly. It rolls into a ball for protection just like an armadillo.
I know of no purpose they serve, but I'm sure God does.

Could join; never have.
Went to a few meetings - the local chapter doesn't meet at convenient places or times for me (i.e. they meet on weekdays at lunchtime . . . not a good time for a working woman.)

"90% (Dixie). Did you have any Confederate ancestors?"
Yes, all of them were from the South. This little quiz may explain why I didn't like living in the Northeast & moved back home to Texas.
Thanks for the neat link.

Because, with the weight of the roll you can throw it really high into the tree, which makes it nearly impossible to get out. It is best if you do it on a night with a little rain, cause then it sticks to the trees and you can't get it out. You do it to the mean kids. If they are really mean, you can stick plastic knives and forks into the dirt all over the yard. And if they hit your sister or something, you can break off said utensils so that they hurt when you step on them and are very difficult to remove.
And no, I never did it. ;)

Uh. I'm afraid to ask what ya'll DID use for toilet tissue!
I have used corncobs when we visited relatives in the hills when I was a kid. They just went "outdoors", didn't have a little building. Daddy always built our little outhouses.

My friend, if you haven't had "garlic cheese grits", you haven't lived. Or Jalapeno & Cheddar grits. I'll eat grits just about any way they are made. Now cream of wheat is a bit diferent. The only way I ever eat it is with applesauce (and I have no clue was to when that started).
Also a biggie in our house was plain ole hominy. Used to eat it instead of corn.
