I grew up in Houston, Texas. I've been in California for the last 13 years. As far as I know, those that hear me speak can detect no particular (or strong) accent or dialect.
It did take me a couple of years of being in California to stop saying "fixin'", as in "I'm fixin' to go to the store". And I called "soda" of any brand a "Coke" for several years -- but now I called it a "soda".
Now, be careful, honey chile. There's a southerner listenin' in.
Effie and Clyde were my mother's aunt and uncle, in Marks, MS. Speaking of New Orleans, my daughter's a freshman at Loyola - my wife and I are driving down to visit this weekend. What a wonderful place to visit!
Dixie!... but I already knew that. ;-)
Although now that I think about it, my kid does from time to time tell me that I sound like a ridge-runner.
I'm sorry, I broke it!
Hahahaha. I know, I was just teasing. I was surprised by the results since I have lived in Michigan my entire life.
LOL ... maybe there is hope for me
39% (Yankee). A definitive Yankee
Pretty part of town....it'll be really pretty come March, when the azaleas are in bloom....And miserably hot by June!
59% (Dixie). Barely into the Dixie category.
Hey I spent most of my life in California?????
ping
I didn't know that outside New England no one knew what a grinder was. I knew that a sub, hogie, hero are all pretty much the same thing. In WA state when I asked where a good grinder shop was, most people had no clue what I meant.
We used to go on "Packie Runs" before the package store (liquor store) closed at 8pm. When I saw Tequila sold in a grocery store in New Mexico (after 8, on a Sunday) I was shocked! CT is kinda weird that way--no alcohol sales after 8pm or on Sundays/Holidays.
I'm bummed!! I scored 46% barely into to Yankee range & I was born and raised in New York!! Then again, that was the first 19 years of my life, I have spent the last 20 in the military...which could explain the score.... I NEED TO GO HOME!
Ping!
99% Dixie.
Born in Tulsa, raised in Texas.
my brothers LIVED for mischief night!
Well, I'm 78% Dixie, but I want a re-count........I just KNOW I'm more Dixie than that! *~* (I think the pill but question got me......we call them "doodle bugs" but I had to say pill bug) and I do say coke, but usually say "sodie water"........hehehehehe.
33% Yankee here :-)
We use to call it "Wreck Night"
Who would have guessed?
