The only science fiction movie better then the writing is "Planet of the Apes".

Planet of the apes was only a short story.

IMHO, "Blade Runner" was a pretty good movie from the novel "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?".

I didn't read that one, I said WOTW was a toss up because the movie was so different. I robot the movie is about as different as you can get from asimov's book.

There might have been a Planet of the Apes short story but someone expanded it into a full length novel. I read that novel in high school. The hero was not an American astronaut but a French journalist. The book, as I recall, was a English translation of the original French.

I don't know if it qualifies as sci-fi but the movie version of J.H. Rosny's "Quest for Fire" was much better than the book. The book was a skinny little thing that could have been much better.
