Republican to Lead Immigration Revolt Against Bush
By Alan Elsner
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A Republican member of the House of Representatives vowed on Wednesday to lead a revolt against President Bush (news - web sites)'s immigration reform proposals and predicted that up to 180 party members would support him.
Bush in an interview with the Washington Times published on Wednesday said he plans to force a debate in Congress this year on his proposal that would allow some illegal immigrants to obtain legal work permits in the United States.
Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo, who heads the House Immigration Reform Caucus, said he was determined to block the legislation. The caucus, which had 71 members in the last Congress, argues for stronger action to stop illegal immigration and a reduction of legal migration.
"Why is this so important to the president?" Tancredo said. "Is it just the corporate interests who benefit from cheap labor? Do they have such a strong grip on our president so that he is actually willing to put our nation at risk, because open borders do put our nation at risk?
"Is it petulance, because we were able to stop it in the last Congress? Why is it so important to give amnesty to people who have broken the law?" Tancredo said.
"I'm willing to lead a fight against this and I would say there are at least 180 members of our Republican caucus who are willing at least to stop amnesty for illegal immigrants," he told Reuters in a telephone interview.
Bush has repeatedly said he views immigration reform as an important issue for his second term. In the Washington Times interview, he said it was near the top of his agenda.
"Look, whether or not you agree with the solution or not, we have a problem in America when you've got 8 million undocumented workers here," he said.
BUSH CONFIDENCE
Bush expressed confidence he could win over opponents, as he did in passing tax reform during his first term. "Initially out of the box, some people said, over my dead body would they pass tax relief ... If I listened to all that, I'd just quit, you know. But that's not the way I think."
But analysts agree that immigration reform could be much more divisive for Republicans since growing numbers of rank-and-file voters are becoming concerned at the continued influx of illegal immigrants across the Mexican border.
"No issue, not one, threatens to do more damage to the Republican coalition than immigration," said David Frum, a former White House speech writer in Bush's first term.
"There's no issue where the beliefs and interests of the party rank-and-file diverge more radically from the beliefs and interests of the party's leaders," he wrote in the National Review last month.
Bush insists he is not offering amnesty to illegal immigrants but Tancredo said that was a "manipulation of language, the kind of thing (former President) Bill Clinton would have done. There is an issue of integrity here and an issue of honesty," he said.
What's sad is many of the immigrants are better Americans than people who are born here. I guess they'd also diss Sgt. Rafael Peralta who will probably win the Medal of Honor for giving his life to save his fellow marines in Fallujah.
I've heard enough of your "principles" on this thread, and I don't agree with any of them. My perspective won't change until I believe that this American President intends to enforce the laws of the land instead of side-stepping them to pander to a foreign country and slave holders.
Actually, their agenda is against serious crimes committed by all individuals. But because of the fact that we have millions of illegal aliens in our country who shouldn't even be here, any crimes committed by these illegal aliens could have been prevented if our government had done its job and kept them from entering the U.S. in the first place.
Sounds like the modus operandi used by organizations such as La Raza, LULAC, MALDEF, and MEChA.
That's quite an anti-American statement.
Surprisingly, I keep a running inventory. As of 3:15 pm today, there were: One thousand, two hundred and eleven blue collar workers in my "sphere of influence".
Pffffftttt.
I'm in my forties. Most all the "blue collar" workers I know have evolved over the years to managment or self-employment. Some have used their "blue collar" jobs for the college co-pays and have moved on to some other endeavor. All have succeeded, most have failed along the way and overcome, all have tried to better themselves. None of them are in competition with newly arrived immigrants for employment. They have greater pride than that. They take their obligations to themselves, their families, and to their American blessing more seriously than that.
More hate America first rhetoric.
Eastie gang linked to al-Qaeda
By Michele McPhee
Wednesday, January 5, 2005
A burgeoning East Boston-based street gang made up of alleged rapists and
machete-wielding robbers has been linked to the al-Qaeda terrorist network,
prompting Boston police to ``turn up the heat'' on its members, the Herald
has learned.
MS-13, which stands for La Mara Salvatrucha, is an extremely violent
organization with roots in El Salvador, and boasts more than 100 ``hardcore
members'' in East Boston who are suspected of brutal machete attacks, rapes
and home invasions. There are hundreds more MS-13 gangsters in towns along
the North Shore, said Boston police Sgt. Detective Joseph Fiandaca, who has
investigated the gang since it began tagging buildings in Maverick Square in
1995.
In recent months, intelligence officials in Washington have warned national
law enforcement agencies that al-Qaeda terrorists have been spotted with
members of MS-13 in El Salvador, prompting concerns the gang may be
smuggling Islamic fundamentalist terrorists into the country. Law
enforcement officials have long believed that MS-13 controls alien smuggling
routes along Mexico.
The warning is being taken seriously in East Boston, where Raed Hijazi, an
al-Qaeda operative charged with training the suicide bombers in the attack
on the USS Cole, lived and worked, prosecutors have charged.
Also, the commercial jets that hurtled into the World Trade Center towers in
New York City were hijacked from Logan International Airport.
``The terrorist aspect, especially when you think in terms of 9/11 and how
intent these terrorists are, will turn the heat up on our efforts with
MS-13,'' Fiandaca said.
MS-13 members congregate near the Maverick Square train station sporting
white and blue bandannas, their skin inked with spider webs and ``laugh now,
cry later'' clown faces.
``MS-13 is the most dangerous gang in the area,'' Fiandaca said. ``They are
big. They are mobile. Now they have a terrorist connection.''
The theory that Salvadoran criminals manage to smuggle people over the
border was bolstered this month when two Boston men described as MS-13
leaders were spotted on the North Shore days before Christmas - a year after
they were deported by Boston Homeland Security Immigration and Customs
Enforcement investigators for gang-related crimes.
One of the two men, Elmer ``Tiger'' Tejada, 24, who had been deported after
being convicted of a slew of crimes, including attempted murder charges for
hurling a machete at Chelsea cops, was busted in Lynn on New Year's Day.
Tejada is described as ``an original MS-13 member'' from East Boston,
sources said.
A manhunt has been launched for the second fugitive, who is in the country
illegally, Boston police said.
The growing number of MS-13 members, and the degree of violence the gang
engages in, prompted investigators from 14 local and national agencies to
form the North Shore Gang Intelligence task force in 2000, Fiandaca said.
Among the most notorious local crimes attributed to MS-13 was the gang rape
of two deaf girls, one 14, the other 17, in a Somerville park in 2002. Three
MS-13 gang members were charged in the brutal rapes, during which one victim
was knocked from her wheelchair before the assault.

Just thought you'd like to read something about these nice Illegals you fight so hard for.
That's one method of exerting control on a population that you want to control. Little brother won't join the gang? You gang rape his 12 year old sister and his 80 year old wheelchair bound grandma. "Wilding" is an acceptable rite of passage for Hispanic gang members. In case you don't know what that is, it's gang rape. Our adversaries in the Gulf region like raping people as punishment too. Just another similarity between 2 barbaric cultures.
These "people" should be euthanized. I'll settle for deportation.
Yes, and I'll guarantee you I'll be turning in every employer in town that has even one suspected illegal!
Any employer who continues to employ illegals after the Bush program deserves to be turned in. They're probably making Yanni DVDs.
So the number of illegals is now 20 million? LOL. I heard it was a "jillion".
Do you have a number?
Sadly, ethics no longer exist in government or the private sector. It's everyone for themselves. This will help explain the lack of an enforceable border. Greed and corruption know no bounds. The slavery of which you speak is unique, in that it is voluntary. Voluntary servitude has become the price of admission.
Can things get worse? Answer: Yes. When these quasi-slaves decide they've had enough. Could all of this have been averted? Answer: Yes. By resisting the tempation to exploit semi-slave labor combined with a reluctance to enforce citizenship status among those offering their labor with a non-pourous boder policy.
The crapology behind the thinking of most guest worker pundits is that one day this underclass they enthusiastically support will rise up to throw off their chains. A very American reaction, by the way. My guess is that they'll feel insulated from the consquences of their poor judgment, while reaping the benefits short-term.
Government and corporations have together morphed into King George III, with the illegal immigrant playing the part of the colonist. What lies ahead won't be any tea party, but rather a complete salad tossing in places like Los Angeles and many other locations in the Southwest.
I really don't care whether you agree with them, but I would like you to explain how your views are principle and my views are simply towing the party line. Perhaps you're just smarter than me and know this stuff, eh?
No the market response is to find a supply of labor at a market price.
