It could be an inserted photo but it is not flipped (his shirt buttons are right and his zipper pull is right) so he is still saluting with his left hand. I'm not buying that it is anything but a sloppy bassackwards attempt at a salute whether is was shopped into this pic or not.

His hair wave is correct too. After checking every Google image I could find looking for this pic (came up emptyhanded) I noticed he has always parted his hair on the left (su-prise su-prise su-prise) going back to his protest days.

The shadow of the C130 should be extending out as well, because if you look at both individuals, they are shaded and the aircraft shadow looks like the sun is directly overhead.
