'SOCKS DOCS' JURY GRILLS CLINTON CRONY
New York Post ^ | 1/12/05 | IAN BISHOP and DEBORAH ORIN

Posted on 01/11/2005 11:41:41 PM PST by kattracks

Former Clinton White House Mr. Fix-It Bruce Lindsey emerged tight-lipped yesterday after testifying before a federal grand jury probing whether top-secret documents were illegally removed from the National Archives.

The grand jury probe, reported exclusively in The Post Tuesday, is digging into why another former Bill Clinton aide, Sandy Berger, sneaked the national security documents out of the Archives — possibly in his socks.

Lindsey denied any inside knowledge about Berger's sticky fingers.

"All I know is what he [Berger] said. He made a public statement," said Lindsey, Clinton's deputy White House counsel, after testifying under oath yesterday.

Berger admits walking off with 40 to 50 top-secret documents from the archives, but claims it was an "honest mistake" while vetting documents for the 9/11 commission.

Berger has admitted destroying some documents — he says by mistake.

Lindsey declined comment on what he told the grand jury, but denied reports that he met with Berger in New York for crisis control as the scandal erupted last summer.

[snip]

Among the documents Berger lifted were multiple drafts of a report assessing the 2000 millennium threat that is said to conclude that only luck prevented a terrorist attack then.

That conflicts with Berger's sworn testimony to the commission — he claimed "we thwarted" millennium attacks by being vigilant, not lucky.

If my memory serves me correctly, didn't sticky fingers Sandy make a couple of cell phone calls (in violation of security rules) to former Clinton counsel Bruce Lindsay from his little cubicle in the National Archives? And yet Lindsay doesn't know anything? Hmmmm, indeed. The Clinton Administration keeps contaminating American public life, even when they're five years out of office.

This reminds me that the Clinton witnesses before the 9/11 Commission were all on point as to what a wonderful job the Clinton Administration had done in fighting terrorism. I am curious as to why no embarrassing memoes such as the ones Sandy stuffed in his socks did not show up at the hearings.

Berger with secret documents, Effin' Kerry kissing Syria's behind, Hillary with campaign finance irregularities, *Bubba, in bed with Kofi, pardoning oil-for-food perps, and Dean wanting to be leader of the pack.

If all this is Dubya's fault, I gotta give him a lot more credit than before...

This is turning out to be a VERY interesting week, and its only Wednesday!

I'm here finally and this is indeed very interesting.

Bruce Lindsey was the person who was contacted by the National Archives when the documents were first discovered missing. Berger was there on behalf of the Clinton administration, of course, and Lindsey was the contact person.

From the article:

but denied reports that he met with Berger in New York for crisis control as the scandal erupted last summer.

Gee, I hope he was scrupulously honest with the grand jury and didn't tell a fib there...

my head is spinning just trying to keep up with it all

Keep an eye out for the appellate court to rule on the contempt citations for those reporters in the so-called Plame grand jury. That ruling is due any day.

Didn't the head archivist have to resign sometime in the fall or late summer?

I just remembered something! When Clinton testified before the 9/11 Commision, he wasn't alone! He had two people with him: Berger and Lindsey!

You're correct!

Is it known exactly which documents he stole and what was in them?

I wish I could share in everybody's confidence on this. The Pink Panther could have sewn up this "investigation" in a f***ing hour! Why is it that here we are 35 years after the fact, still probing away. Reminds me of the endless Clinton investigations that uncovered a lot of "suspicious activity" but nothing prosecutable. Also reminds me of the year+ investigation of that piece of filth in Washington state (McDermott?) who was screwing around with Newt's cell phone calls. Endless investigation leads to.... CRAP! And that boy was caught red-handed as could be. Hope you guys are right, though.

So are we seeing the beginning of the prosecutions we've all been waiting for, that will continue through 2008?

Berger was acting on the orders of Bill Clinton, and for one of two reasons (maybe both). Either Clinton didn't want the world to know that he was asleep at the wheel in the fight against terrorism (theft and destruction of certain documents), or he wanted to find out what documents the commission possessed so Berger would be able to give a heads-up to all the members of his administration who were to testify before the commission, i.e. how to spin their answers.

Slick Willie will go down as the most corrupt president ever. Even Peanut head Carter comes in second on this loser poll.

Did I just hear Fox and Friends say Deborah Orin is up next? Heads up, just in case.

Fox plays a clip of Berger's statement from months ago admitting taking the documents (and saying it was a mistake).

Orin on F & F now. She says the evidence has been being presented to a grand jury and is alive. She informs the tv audience of Lindsey's appearance yesterday.

Orin points out it's illegal to take away documents and the clip Fox just played admits it right there.

Orin discussing how he destroyed some documents.

Steve asks if it's possible he'll do time. Orin says it's hard to say but a plea probably would have been reached by now. She does say she doubts he'll end up doing time, though, I gather due to having to prove beyond a reasonable doubt, etc.

I've seen others mention that but it doesn't ring any bells with me...
