Democrat Switches (Pasco County, FL)
Suncoast News | December 8, 2005 | Suncoast News Staff

Craig McCort, a former Democratic candidate for the Florida House of Representatives, is switching parties.

"It was just a personal decision," McCort, 54, said Wednesday of his shift to the Republican Party. "I was always more of a conservative Democrat. Now I'm going to be a moderate Republican."

Mc Cort was criticized for negative tactics in his unsuccessful 2002 campaign for the District 46 House seat against the then-incumbent, Republican Heather Fiorentino. Fiorentino was elected Pasco school superintendent in 2004.

"The Democratic Party moved away from me," said McCort, executive director of the Sertoma Speech and Hearing Foundation of Florida.

Tax Collector Mick Olson is the lone Democrat holding a countywide elected office in Pasco, a county once dominated by Democrats. Supervisor of Elections Kurt Browning and County Commissioner Steve Simon jumped to the GOP in 2002.

I posted this little article from my local newspaper because it contains a wealth of information.

Notice "a county once dominated by Democrats".

I have posted many times to this forum on how after Al Gore it became a bloodbath in this area of Florida for Democrats. People here were furious at the effort of Gore to steal the election here in FL, resentful of being told they were too stupid to punch a ballot, and angry at the influx of Democrat liberals like Jesse Jackson coming down to tell us our voting business.

Since 2000, this bellwether area has thrown out every single Democrat, even long term incumbents.

Freepers in Washington state, take heart. The Democrats destroyed their elections for two years here with their slimey election tricks.

Florida looks like it is finally progressing to catch up with it's other southern counterparts. By 2008, it most likely won't even be considered a truly "swing" state. Good stuff.

It's sad though that we don't have an opposition party that actually likes America. Until the Democrats move away from the left and the loonies like Kerry, Moore, and the "Err America" cast and back to the FDRs, JFKs and Truman's the defections will continue. Zell Miller was not an isolated case, he was a prime one.

"I was always more of a conservative Democrat. Now I'm going to be a moderate Republican."

I was thinking how Democrats like Feinstein are considered 'moderate Democrats', but Republicans like this are considered to be 'conservative Democrats' until they switch.

Typical media bias.

It's Central West Florida, just north of Tampa Bay.

A Zell Miller Democrat leaves his party. Of course the kooks will celebrate it as news the Democrats are going back to their liberal roots. Life in the minority will be soo entertaining for them! ;-)

LOL. Funny you posted that. We were the "homeschooling moms" and my son the "college kids" that worked with Mr. Bunting.

"Florida looks like it is finally progressing to catch up with it's other southern counterparts"

If Florida gets to be known as one of those awful Red states, maybe all the old northeastern Blue people will stay home and let Florida really redden.

We have a duty to really publicize how redneck Florida is becoming, and of course how Floridians welcome "our kind of people."

Lock in those EV's for a generation!
