December 31, 2004 Edition > Section: Editorial and Opinion > Printer-Friendly Version The Left and the Tsunami New York Sun Staff Editorial December 31, 2004 URL: http://www.nysun.com/article/7039 Leave it to the American left to find a villain of the tsunami disaster - not Mother Nature but President Bush. The Washington Post on Wednesday trotted out the former president of the Council on Foreign Relations, Leslie Gelb, to pronounce that Mr. Bush was, as the Post conveyed it, "missing an opportunity to demonstrate American benevolence." The New York Times editorialized yesterday that American aid offers were "stingy" and "miserly." Rep. Joseph Crowley, a Democrat of Queens, declared that the Bush administration is "asleep at the wheel." Juan Cole, a history professor at the University of Michigan who runs an anti-Bush Web site, wrote, "If Bush were a statesman, he would have flown to Jakarta and announced his solidarity with the Muslims of Indonesia."

OUCH !
I think the president had a brilliant stategery!!! By not coming right out with the total he was going to commit, he made all the European countries start falling over each other to out-do him and make him look bad. Therefore, they gave much more than they would have if he had just started throwing money into the air! < /sarcasm>
THese people are scum...the only thing their pissed at is that Dubya is AT THE WHEEL...
Just to my local newspaper.
Freedom from media bias
Today, 12/31/2004 I read Mr. Bill Mego Depressing yearend article. I would have figured that the Naperville Sun is a more positive newspaper. I hope Mr. Mego is just being funny. All the good things that have happened in 2004 are endless. It is truly amazing how the LL (Looney left) media aka known at the MSM (main stream media) paint the USA to be un-American or depressing.
Mr. Mego article states the rest of the world is only too aware that the amount of aid we have committed so far is about what we will be spending every six hours in Iraq next year. This quote came from a combination of two sources, the UN representative misguided statement and a CNN broadcaster who will remain nameless, hence, Mr. Mego is echoing as the town crier.
If Mr. Mego would only do his research he would find that American farmers, people, corporations, and US government annually gives tens of billions of dollars in aide to other countries. The US agricultural (representing farmers) department gives ¼ of all grains (perhaps 10 billion) produced in the USA away free every year. Add in the Drug companies, hundreds of religion and private charities the total will easily exceed 50 billion dollars. Americans give 136 million dollars per day, every day.
Mr. Mego in my opinion is drowning in the daily media feeds from the MSM, and it is affecting his ability to think rationally. With only 8 nightly news TV slots for the supper table, and if it bleeds it leads, it is time for the non-Internet world to wake up. It would help the self-confidence of Mr. Mego and millions of Americans glued to the TV sets at night, and the world to stop hating America if they would do some research. We then could avoid more Rathergates.
It is interesting that occasionally the usually foreign leaning left gets it right, however is ignored by the American MSM. Here is a clue. I love free speech, however, someone at the Naperville Sun newspaper needs to bring common sense and balance to this article with a both sides view in the future. Patriotic Americans not only have to fight the socialists, and terrorists, they have to fight the Liberal media mouthpieces. Freedom is not free.

LOL...excellent analysis:)
Uhmmmm...GWB is a funny guy...sometimes he's cocky and forthright...but when it comes to disasters and genuine suffering he's humble- and he takes action rather than talking about it. He's a gem.
The Left is so hypocritical.
You hit right on the head!!
I'd LOVE to see President Bush make a public announcement that we're sending rescue teams to all the victims of the tsunami EXCEPT in Somalia.
...That he would fear for the safety of Americans in that nest of Islamofascists!
Outstanding letter!
I think his sense of fun comes across that way to some people. I thank God every day we have a man like this to guide and govern us. He is the most centered person I have ever observed. Just doesn't let what the left press throw at him bother him at all. He just keeps on a steady course and does the RIGHT thing, not the expedient thing!
Truly, we are witness to a struggle of monumental proportions, a contest of agendas and perceptions between the "Yankees" and the "Cowboys."
It is still BUSH'S FAULT!
Jeesee Peesee, when is this whining going to end?
Maggots. They're nothing but maggots(who are still entitled to their opinions - but they're STILL maggots).
Ah. I feel better now. Thanks.
This article states:
President Bush will send a delegation headed by Secretary of State Colin Powell and the president's brother, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, to the tsunami-affected region on Sunday to assess the need for assistance, the White House said.
Meanwhile, this article states:
He [Kofi Annan] is going to hold a meeting with the Eu next week, to decide how they will help the victims. So, who is doing a better job?
I bet Koffi is pissed!
Any word on whether or not Sri Lanka ever accepted the offer from Israel for aid? They initially refused it.
Gee, what are the fifty million Muslims he's helped free in Afghanistand and Iraq, chopped liver?
Gee, what are the fifty million Muslims he's helped free in Afghanistand and Iraq, chopped liver?
Great point. These people need a lot of prayer.
