A Vietnamese lady io met through the Internet told me her parents spent 14 years in re-education camps after the war was over..Her mom survuved and was still alive, her dad died after being released...they lost everything- house, plot of land,everything..

The Montagnards especially were treated terribly by the N. Vietnamese because they had fought so hard against the NVA; many of their villages were wiped out..

Not so..The North Vietnamese decimated the Catholic clergy and closed all the convents and sent the nuns away or to the re-education camps, according to the Vietnamese lady i mentioned above...They were persecuted just because they were Christians/Catholics..They were viewed as subversives.

The thread is about present day Vietnam. It is a very different place than it was 30 years ago. It is probably more capitalist now than the US is.

My co-worker friend showed me a paper his family got from the Vietnamese government recently saying to move the dead from the family burial grounds as they (the gov’t) decided they “needed” the land. I told him unfortunately alot of people here just have no clue what communism means.
