Wonder why they don't employ eye protection for pilots?

I thought I had read an article indicating pilots are/are going to/are encouraged to protect their eyes/vision while flying.

I read that there was eye protection...some special sunglasses for one but the arguement was that the pilots can't wear them at night. Another item I saw mentioned was about B-12's (if I remember correctly) having some special film covering that forms over the glass of the cockpit in a ridiculously short amount of time when testing nukes. I didn't, however, post anything about it because I read it on another forum that I've never seen before and therefore didn't take it as fact.
