BR (Baton Rouge) seminar educates Muslims on rights

A representative of a national Islamic group hosted workshops on civil rights and media relations Sunday at the LSU Union.
Ibrahim Abusway, community affairs coordinator for the Washington, D.C.-based Council on American-Islamic Relations, presented the pair of programs to about 50 people.
The first workshop was called "What to do if the FBI visits you."
Jehad Mahmoud, president of the Islamic Center of Baton Rouge, which sponsored the workshops, said he's not aware of many cases of religious-based discrimination against Muslims in Louisiana, but said, "We want our community members to know their rights."

Interesting: three of the 9/11 hijackers also had the name Alghamdi. I don't know how common that name is among the peaceful ones, but I find that at least worth noting.
Kuwait launches hunt for 'militants'
KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait, facing an increase in militant violence, is hunting between eight to 10 Saudis and Kuwaitis suspected of links to Al Qaeda and a local anti-US network, a security source said yesterday.
"Among the Kuwaitis and Saudis being sought by state security are three individuals who have been wanted since the summer as part of a network that trained and sent youths to Iraq to fight US-led forces," the source said.
Adel Al Shimmari, Khaled Al Dosari and Ahmad Al Mutairi have been sought by the authorities since August for indoctrinating youths in radical Islam and facilitating their entrance to Iraq, the source said.
They are also leading suspects in two deadly clashes between police and gunmen in Kuwait earlier this month, blamed on Muslim militants believed to be sympathetic to Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
The source identified a fourth suspect as 29-year-old Kuwaiti national Amer Al Enezi, 29.
"All the men being sought have links to hostile activity in either Afghanistan or Iraq," the source said.
Kuwait has boosted security and cracked down on Islamists opposed to the US military presence. Police have seized weapons and munitions in a series of hauls and have so far detained up to 25 suspected militants for questioning.
Saudi Interior Minister Prince Nayef has been quoted as saying that the attacks in Kuwait were an extension of events in Saudi Arabia and were "from the same source".

That's interesting.
If they are American citizens, they have exactly the same rights as any other American citizen.
If they are not Americans, then they must comply with immigration rules and regulations as set forth by US law.
Unfortunately some who live on American soil feel they are entitled to leniency and exclusions from written law. These are the same people who will attend "classes" to learn how to evade and defy American laws.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Tonight, worshippers leaving dozens of synagogues in north-east London's Stamford Hill will hurry home in groups, keeping an eye out for strange cars and taking care not to leave anyone on their own.
For the large Jewish population in this part of the city has been subjected to a series of vicious attacks in the past six weeks. Eight orthodox Jewish men, mostly youths in their teens and early 20s, easily recognisable because of their strict dress code of black suit, white shirt, black hats and ringleted hair, have been assaulted by a gang of black and Asian men.
Two victims needed hospital treatment - one had his nose broken by an iron bar, another needed stitches. But all eight were left terrified at being targeted apparently just because they were Jewish. Their attackers shouted anti-semitic insults. Some gave Nazi salutes or knocked off a victim's traditional hat or kappel skull cap.
Fear has spread through the neighbourhood, with many parents scared to let their children travel on buses or go out alone after dark. Local people have instigated a text message SOS system, whereby anyone in trouble can summon help from nearby residents.
Mike Whine, spokesman for the Community Security Trust, an agency which provides defence information and advice to British Jews, said the sustained nature of the attacks on a close-knit community was intimidating.
But he was even more worried that they were symptomatic of a general upsurge in anti-semitism throughout the UK in the last year.
In another recent incident, Jewish graves were desecrated in a cemetery in Aldershot, Hampshire, for the second time in three months.
Ten Jewish graves in Redan Road cemetery, two belonging to second world war veterans, were daubed with Nazi symbols, including swastikas, SS signs and CO18, the far right group, Combat 18. A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said 12 graves were similarly defaced in October and it was despicable that vandals had struck again so close to Holocaust Memorial Day on January 27.
"There have also been incidents in north Manchester, where there is a large Jewish population, and in other parts of the country," said Mr Whine, who is also a director of the British Board of Jewish Deputies.
"While we are still compiling final figures, we know there has been a substantial increase in violence against Jews in the past year." The Community Security Trust has compiled reports on anti-semitic behaviour since 1984 and has recorded an average of 500 instances a year since 2000, ranging from verbal insults and offensive literature to desecration of property and physical attacks on people.
Islamic extremists have targeted Jews on several occasions. But there is no evidence to date that the Stamford Hill attacks are linked to any such group. Mr Whine could think of no particular reason for the recent increase in anti-semitism, but said there was always a backlash when Jews, Israel or Nazism were in the news."
Proof positive it is the religion of hate and must be recognized and dealt with as such.

"Tehran, Jan. 22 – An Iranian medical student was sentenced to two years prison time and 74 lashes by Iran's Revolutionary Court on political charges, according to a state-run news agency.
Reza Ashrafpour, a young man studying dentistry in Iran's University of Medical Sciences had been charged with "acting against national security", "propaganda against the regime", "spreading panic in society", and "insulting the Supreme Leader".
It is believed that authorities were looking to convict Ashrafpour for the past two years.
Security forces have in recent months launched a new clampdown on youth and women in universities as part of a new campaign to stem the spate of anti-government protests in the country."
