Woman arrested after killing bag snatcher
Police in the east of Amsterdam detained a 43-year-old female motorist on Monday night after she killed a thief who stole her bag.
snip...
But this time the victim was a Moroccan and residents have accused the woman of murder.

(Dead purse snatcher = victim!)
"After the collision, the car continued moving due to an "unknown" cause and the 19-year-old was wedged in between the car and a tree. He died at the scene...."
Also in the article it mentions that this happened close to the Van Gogh murder scene.
To any car-jacking, purse snatching perps...please note that my big ole SUV would not be moving due to an "unknown cause"....it would be moving because I would have my foot on the gas to run your arse over. And if you would just happen to die at the scene....well then I guess your last decision in life to try to harm me would have proven to be a bad one.
The lawmakers and women in Amsterdam better get together....otherwise they might as well start wearing burkas now. The writing is on the wall with this case...the perp is a "VICTIM" and the woman who tried to defend herself is being painted as a murderer.
Update:
Egyptian relatives blame violence of American society for slaying of NJ family
1/18/2005, 1:53 p.m. ET
The Associated Press
LUXOR, Egypt (AP) Relatives of the Egyptian Christian family slain last week in New Jersey blamed the violence of American society for the killings, saying Tuesday that they doubted it was a religious crime.
Hossam Armanious, 47, his wife, Amal Garas, 37, and their daughters, Sylvia, 15, and Monica, 8, were found bound and fatally stabbed in their home Friday.
Published reports over the weekend said investigators were examining religious messages Hossam Armanious had posted in an Internet chat room, possibly offending Muslims, and mourners in Jersey City on Sunday said the killings may have been religiously motivated. But prosecutors downplayed any religious motive and local Muslims vehemently disputed the claim. The regional head of the Coptic church cautioned against a rush to judgment.
In Luxor, Egypt, relatives of the Coptic Christian family said they believed religion had nothing to do with the crime.
Milad Ibrahim, Armanious' cousin, blamed "the brutality of American society" and complained that the family's neighbors couldn't interfere to stop the crime.
Hosni Armanious, another close relative, said the killings would not have happened in Egypt, where neighbors are more involved in each other's lives.
"If a member of this family was attacked in Egypt, they would have screamed, yelled, and dozens of people would have interfered to protect them," he said.
New Jersey authorities say the killings could have occurred during a robbery since no cash was found in the home.
Some people shouted anti-Muslim phrases and a fight broke out during a funeral processional and services for the family on Monday at a church in Jersey City, N.J., where several Muslims were in attendance. The family had been active in the St. George & St. Shenouda Coptic Orthodox Church since immigrating to the United States in 1997.
In Egypt, Copts comprise roughly 10 percent of Egypt's population of 70 million. Copts and Muslims generally live in peace, though it is a sometimes uneasy relationship in which sectarian tensions can flare and become violent.
The Coptic Orthodox Church is one of the oldest communities in Christendom, believed to have been founded in the first century A.D. by the apostle Mark.

NEW YORK (AP) - An Iraqi-American conspired to act as an agent for Saddam Hussein by accepting millions of dollars in compensation and negotiating with United Nations officials to let Iraq sell oil, authorities said Tuesday.
The charges were the first to be publicly revealed in the probe of allegations that administrators in the United Nations oil-for-food program took bribes and let Hussein skim money from the program.
Samir A. Vincent was charged in a criminal information in U.S. District Court, where a grand jury has been looking into the United Nations program.
The $60 billion oil-for-food effort was created as a humanitarian exemption to sanctions imposed on Iraq after the 1990 invasion of Kuwait, which led to the 1991 Gulf War. Beginning in 1996, it let Hussein's government sell oil and use the proceeds to buy food, medicine and other items. ...

And the cover up continues....
It's America's fault. It's Bush's fault.
Excuse me while I go puke. This is making me sick!
It's making me sick too! Yesteday I watched clips from several different local networks showing members in the community clearly afraid for the lives of their families and seemingly convinced that it was muslims who did this. Today the coverage has all but disappeared and relatives and friends have suddenly changed their tune. How can the connection to Sheik Rahman be ignored? How can the internet threat to hunt down and kill the father be ignored?
Egyptian President Reassures Christians After Clashes (1/14/05)
Egypt's President reassured followers of the Coptic Church that they were full members of Egyptian society after recent clashes between Christians and Muslims, sources reported earlier this week...
"Christians are not a minority in Egypt, they are Egyptian by origin and birth."
According to MiddleEastOnline, Mubarak played down clashes between Christians and Muslims in the run-up to last Friday's Coptic Christmas, saying that such unrest "happens all over the world."
Last month, hundreds of Coptic Christians--Egypt's largest Christian denomination-- staged protests in Cairo and in the west delta province of Beheira following the alleged abduction and forced conversion of Wefaa Constantine--the wife of a Coptic priest--to Islam.
Although the alleged abduction and forced conversion of Constantine sparked the protests, sources say the protest was also a response to the Egyptian government's sanction of anti-Coptic hate crimes such as arson, torture, murder, and the abduction, rape, and forced conversion of young Coptic women.
However, by then at least 60 police were wounded in ensuing clashes and 34 demonstrators were arrested.
It was also mentioned on the Laura Roth radio show.
That's quite the list. Thanks for posting it.
Amid simmering religious tension, Muslims denounce killing of Christian family
1/18/2005, 3:34 p.m. ET
By WAYNE PARRY
The Associated Press
JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) As religious tension continued to boil here following the murder of an Egyptian Christian family, Muslim groups denounced the killings and prayed for the victims.
Prosecutors continued to investigate the possibility that Hossam Armanious, 47, his 37-year-old wife, Amal Garas, and their daughters, Sylvia, 15, and Monica, 8, were slain by a Muslim angered over postings that Armanious, a Coptic Christian, wrote in an Internet chat room.
The bodies were found bound and gagged Friday, their throats and heads stabbed repeatedly. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday afternoon.
But prosecutors stressed there is strong evidence that robbery might have been the motive for the killings.
"Money was not found at the scene," said First Assistant Hudson County Prosecutor Gaetano Gregory. "Mr. Armanious' pockets had been turned out and his wallet was emptied. A pocketbook had been emptied. Drawers had been rifled in the home."
He would not comment on the possibility of religious animosity as a motive in the slayings. Investigators have taken a computer from the children's bedroom.
"We continue to review several theories," Gregory said. "Our goal is to identify the killers. We believe that when the killers are identified, the motive for this wanton and vile crime will be revealed.
"We continue to explore any theory that is supported by evidence recovered at the scene," he said. "Speculation as to motive will not advance our inquiry."
The killings have created enormous tension between Coptic Christians, mainly immigrants from Egypt, and Muslims in this city still reeling from a wave of anti-Muslim bias after the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.
Before, during and after Monday's funeral for the family, protesters screamed anti-Islam slogans and carried signs comparing the murders to Middle East terrorism. Mourners scuffled in the streets as emotions ran high.
"No one who believes in God could have done this, no matter what religion they are," Ahmed Sheded, president of the Islamic Center of Jersey City, said of the slayings after attending the funeral.
The American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee denounced the killings as "senseless and horrible."
"Any crimes against civilians regardless of motives or justification are a serious breach of the covenants of all world religions and the civilized world," said Aref Assaf, president of the group's New Jersey chapter. "Ethnic or sectarian motives must be rejected as a justification for taking human life."
He said it is important to prevent "baseless generalizations" about religious strife between Muslims and Christians from making the killings even more serious than they already are.
"Religious and community leaders must unequivocally condemn the crime and the perpetrators," he said.
Likewise, the Council on American-Islamic Relations also condemned the killings and offered condolences to the Coptic community. Religious leaders said Muslims were keeping the family in their prayers.
"May God give comfort to the family and friends of the victim," said Magdy Mahmoud, president of the group's New Jersey chapter. He said the possible bias angle should be thoroughly investigated.
I pity the souls of the deceased and the disdain for American society of their relatives.
