This is the first word I've seen in the mainstream press about the impact of Target's decision to cut out the Salvation Army this year, and I don't think it's been posted here before. Makes me glad because my wife and I have avoided Target this Christmas season, and we let them know why.

"Target, which wouldn't comment for this story, has said it opted for blanket enforcement of its non-solicitation policy at its 1,300 stores."

BULL SQUAT...
There is ALWAYS an "ethnic" solicitor in front of our Target....collecting money to help get "our kids off drugs"...

Target has been HIT --- and deserves it.

Target has risen to lightning-rod status for some Americans angry at the state of year-end commercialism, said Atlanta marketing strategist Jim Neal.

"This has been unfair," said Neal, of Kurt Salmon Associates. "[Target is] taking the hit from the Christmas crabbies."

What?!! Once again, typical Left-wing projection.

Neal would urge Target to weather the barrage. "Their reasons are valid," said the consultant, who maintains Target's tepid holiday revenue is a reflection of a widespread shopping malaise. "They should stay the course."

This guy is really a donkey.

Uh huh, stay the course, Tar-jay, and even less people will shop there next year. Now that this is (finally) hitting the LSM, their sly-stick-it-to-us days are over.

Please add my disgust and villification to Target and any others who come against the Salvation Army. This harmless group is doing what it has always done to work for the Lord. If the ringing of a bell is so offensive then stay away and make room for those of us who "KNOW" the reason for the season. The Salvation Army symbolizes CHRISTMAS & CHRIST that shines a light in a dark and evil world. Eternal shame and damnation to those who rebel against a good and decent Organization!

The Salvation Army spends most of it's revenue on spouses and children of convicts. They, also, minister in prisons and help recently released cons.

We got a stocking(real cloth) on our door yesterday from target. It has big discount coupons in it. They must be looking for business.

...former customers who may have crossed the retailer off their shopping lists for banning the bell-ringers.

I did just that. I'm not even a huge contributor or supporter of the Salvation Army. Not that I think it's a bad organization, quite the contrary. It's mainly because I have another Charity that I feel a considerable attachment to, and would prefer my dollars go to that one.

But this banning of the bells by Target is singular in its pettiness. And I'm not returning to Target after the holidays either. The Salvation Army helps a lot of people, and they lost out on a lot of donations because of Target management's small, constricted brain and heart. And now they can live with the consequences of their petty little decision.

Target used to be a lot of fun until they got politically correct.

Pity the poor innocent employees, I'll bet they did not agree to this banning nor were they even asked for their feelings concerning it.

It's always the little guy who gets squashed.

Target, Walmart and K-mart are all the same to me...the only difference is Target sells well designed and better looking crappy stuff.

Still, I emailed Target and complained, and received their standard reply.
I happen to love the Salvation Army bell ringers, and have happily handed over my money to department stores like Hechts.

I went to Target today just to get something I can't get anywhere else (they have great baby wipes - Target brand); and did notice it was not as crowded as I thought it would be.

Besides Walmart, Whole Foods Market had Salvation Army people there;I left a note with the manager telling them that I was extremely pleased and would give them more of my grocery business.

I've been going to Target this season. But I gotta say, that once I'm in the store, I don't feel much like Christmas. Those red kettles triggered in me the Pavlovian Spend Like A Drunken Sailor response that retailers so love. This year, without that insistent "ringy, ringy, ringy" as I walked in the door I was mostly picking and looking, and wound up buying lots of stuff online.

Just made a quick stop at Walmart and dropped $10 in the kettle. Felt like Christmas.

I happily shoppped at Target again this year and will continue to do so. I like the store and it has been great competition to WalMart. WalMart has practices that far outweigh the slight to the Salvation Army that has been an unfortunate decision by Target.

To rejoice that people may have seriously damaged a credible competitor to WalMart is beyond me. I can see the folks at WalMart doing the high five, further bouyed to attack the next community. Emminent domain is a more serious threat to a community than not allowing the Salvation Army at Christmas.

Funny, I didn't see the red bucket at Home Depot... or Lowe's... or a host of other stores. Are you all boycotting them as well? Are you all only shopping at stores where you find the SA?

But for some of you I guess it's always a happy day when you can help to put a store out of business and send even more folks to the unemployment line... Merry Christmas to them.

Just seems to me there are far more important issues for all of us to take a stand against. Maybe like removing the Ten Commandments from a court house? Or removing a Nativity? Or even erasing Merry Christmas from our society?

The store chain Target has decided this Christmas to ban the Salvation Army from placing their bell ringers outside their stores to solicit funds for the wonderful work they do for our nation's most vulnerable. In my opinion, giving to the causes that the Salvation Army serves is a lot more about the Christmas season than the merchandise I buy from Target, so we are banning Target from our shopping until they change their policy banning the Salvation Army. If it takes them until next year, or the next, that is entirely Target's call. Join me in this effort by not shopping there, and encouraging your friends to do likewise. Then communicate this to Target at:

http://www.targetcorp.com/targetcorp_group/contactus/contact_general.jhtml

This is what I said:

"My family regularly shops at Target, yet the news that Target has banned the Salvation Army from soliciting donations this Christmas will change that. Like you, the Christmas season is their major source of revenues. They do an extraordinary amount of good for the nation's most vulnerable. The damage Target has inflicted upon that effort cannot be measured. I will not shop at Target until they change their policy toward the Salvation Army, and I will encourage my friends to do likewise. Please let me know when you change your policy."

Please pass this onto those in your address book & Merry Christmas!
