Stone masonery is not considered just manual labor. And $10 an hour, which I paid to a Mexican for two hours after he had worked at the golf course all day. He insisted on cash. He couldn't understand what I wanted him to do so I didn't have him back.
I am 81 and it is work I have always done but I just couldn't find the time.
Maybe they were even citizens that built the wall but they made mistakes and had to tear out and redo after the contractor came by and I asked him to correct it.
Thank goodness we had a contract and not hourly wages.
My Grandmother came form Norway at 16, she spoke only English, which I regret that I wasn't taught, she spoke Norwegian to my Grandfather.
She and her sister came at differnt times, waiting for the quota to allow them to come here.
Citizens or not they at least could learn English if they want to work for us. Frannie

"Stone masonery is not considered just manual labor."A skilled stone mason should be proud of his profession. But American kids are not taught to respect the value of skilled artisans. That's just one reason why there are jobs that Americans won't do.
