I file this under the "No Shit Sherlock" heading. A woman willing to shove a huge blob of toxic, foreign substance into her body because of her poor self-image or to satisfy some lard-butt on the sofa is almost certainly more at risk for suicide.

(1) A large percentage of augmented women are "exotic dancers", prostitutes and porn actresses. Such women often come from abusive households, have abusive relationships, have professional lives that generally last a very short time before they are cast aside, etc.
(2) Women who augment themselves usually do it because they are deeply insecure about how they look - and this insecurity could be part of a deeper problem.

This is interesting to me. My wife's best friend is simultaneously obsessed with having implants and she's often suicidal.

It shouldn't come as a surprise that women unhappy with themselves and undergo such surgery find themselves unhappy postsurgery.
Many of the people undergoing such proceedures are probably more in need of counseling than surgical enhancement.

Maybe their poor self image can't be solved with two plastic bags full of goo shoved in their bodies. Yep. And upon that realization their depression worsened. Self respect can't be bought.

Whether the elevated rate of psychiatric conditions explains the higher suicide risk is not clear from the findings. It sounds to me as if women who are willing (for no good reason, that is, for the sole reason of looking as if they could be Hugh Hefner's girlfriend) to let a doctor slice them open in two places and stuff foreign substances into their bodies are in need of psychiatric assistance. The fact that they are apparently three times as likely to off themselves as women who don't care how Hugh Hefner would rate them is not that surprising to me.

I work with a girl that had in-plants put in, she is a hard core liberal and she is also a bit evil. Her family has a history of institutionalized family members. She also has some criminal tendencies. So I think there is some truth to this.

To me this is a case of "how obvious could it be?" Someone who is vain enough to have breast implants is already more of a suicide risk than average. And I certainly don't mean to be insulting to anyone who has had them, but I think that having breast implants is looking in the wrong direction for happiness. You'll wake up the next day, you'll still be yourself, and now you've placed yourself at risk physically for something that is nothing. The women who commit suicide may even be more perceptive on average because they recognize the futility of seeking happiness in the physical.
I thank God I married a woman who isn't into that cosmetic stuff! Ladies, you're beautiful in the eyes of men regardless of breast size. Just love without holding back and you'll have everything a man needs.

The pros, hos and exotic dancer stuff might have been true 25 years ago, but it is sooo common now their numbers wouldn't do it. Good thinking, though...

I never understood the allure of implants anyway. They take what is otherwise a perfectly cuddly set of breasts and turn them into these unworldly puffed up things that look more like severe allergic reactions to bee stings than a welcoming bosom.
