AESTHETICS OF HATE: R.I.P. DIMEBAG ABBOTT, AND GOOD RIDDANCE
-- Time For Conservative Imagination!

Part of the hard work of civilization is teaching young to be able to distinguish between the good and the bad in all aspects of life. If we teach our young children to obey the 10 Commandments and to obey the laws of the land, but don't teach them to realize that Johann Sebastian Bach is superior to Dimebag Abbott, we have failed as parents and mentors. If a person has gone through 12 or 13 years of education and has not developed an appreciation for the greatest artistic achievements of mankind, that education has been an utter failure.
While laissez-faire is the correct approach to economics it has no place in the realm of aesthetics or morality. A confidant civilization imposes its morality and aesthetics on it young people. Yes, you heard it right. We impose. The Rousseauian noble savage is a myth. Left unchecked and untutored the savage will never attain nobility......

In 5 years, my CD collection will still have Pantera, and lots of other metal.
I don't think I've ever owned Bach. Though I do like Stravinsky, and er... Wagner. And others.
The point is, music you don't like isn't going to go away. Look at rap. I thought it would have gone away, or at least it's creators all shot to death. No dice.

I know, I bet you feel I'm being "mean spirited" and "divisive" and "insensitive", huh? Nope. I think the terms "idiotic" and "elitist" cover your post quite nicely.

You just can't accept that some people here admire someone you hate. Don't you long for the fascist state where YOU get to control how people raise their kids??!
Just for that, I'm bringing my kids up with Pantera and Black Sabbath.

I hardly live in the "gutter." I have a good job, a college degree, no piercings or tatoos. I make in the high 5 figures. I don't smoke dope. I don't screw a different woman every night. And I'm a metalhead.

I bet a lot more conservatives listen to Pantera than Bach.
BTW, you are an a-hole. Did you know the guy? He was respected in his community. He was an avid Bush supporter and a friendly guy.

Yeah, and thsoe somg titles... what about them? Ever heard the songs? No? I've heard "Good Friends and a Bottle of Pills" and if there ever was something that could convince me that drugs are bad, that would certainly be one of them. Same could be said for Hard Lines, Sunken Cheeks...
To serve and protect
By the law and the state
I'd bust the punks
That rape steal and murder
And leave you be
If you crossed me
I'd shake your hand like a man
Not a god
Wow. Such bad stuff.

Well, as a forum mod at the DLR Army, I had tears of laughter streaming down my face when I read this......."But we both agree (as do all civilized human beings) that both Messrs. Haydn and Beethoven are numerous steps further along the evolutionary trail than Dimebag Abbott." Oh, jeez......LOL

Oh waaa. Listening to all you poor little dears being offended by this article is making me laugh/puke (still trying to decide). Must be DU visitors day at FR. Are you all bummed out because one of your AD/DC/DimeBag/Scumbag heavy metal heroes got shot? I feel your pain (ha ha ha, good riddance). I know, I bet you feel I'm being "mean spirited" and "divisive" and "insensitive", huh? Get a clue, yo-yos. Bach was far superior to Scumbag/Dimebag (whatever) in every respect. And we as a society do have an obligation to teach our children that there are aesthetic values, and that there is a difference between Bach and Scumbag, the same way that there is a difference between the Mona Lisa and a Lucite encased turd. GET A GRIP PEOPLE!! Am I sorry that another human being got shot? Yes, I'm sorry that he got shot in the same sense that I would be sorry if some lawyer from the ACLU got shot. You people as so focused on the fact that one of you little heavy-metal childhood heroes got killed, that you missed the point of the article; we as society do need to instill some type of aesthetic judgment in our children. (And I got a news flash for you poor poor heavy metal babies: As far as role models go, Scumbag ain't it!)Wow. Must be nice to be so perfect. I think you would make an excellent role model for children. Yup. We should all strive to make sure our children grow up to be like you.

Mr. Grim certainly lives up to his name.
I listened to all the music my parents hated when I was growing up - The Beatles, Stones, Who, King Crimson, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, etc., etc.
Guess who is the *only* conservative in the family? Yep, that would be *me*.

I have just finished digesting the article and the reactions here on this thread. I had to draw an obvious parallel.
This reminds me of when RUN DMC deejay Jam Master J was shot outside of a concert hall. Folks who would sooner dig out their eardrums with a crochet needle than listen to his music wrote it off as "yet another gangsta shooting" and bid him good riddance. The on-air cretin Mike Gallagher led the charge. His ignorance was so amazing that I felt like reaching through the radio, grabbing him by the ears and shaking him like a cocktail.
As the tired canard says, if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all. This phrase has a particular meaning when the "sayers", namely conservatives, have every syllable analyzed for fodder in the ongoing culture wars.
So commentators and on-air personalities (and I know some of you talking heads and online political scribes are reading this) get your collective heads out of your rears and learn something about which you speak or type. At this stage in American politics, conservatives need not only to be right, but to be correct. Do no harm. Ignorance of some subjects is OK and you don't need to have an opinion on everything. And most of all, take a trip to the land of "shut the eff up" if you are about to communicate something stupid.

I prefer living next door to a snotty-liberal cultural elitist who plays Bach's profound compositions and chord schemes 24/7 at full volumn than to live next door to some one who plays any raucous rock band's metal guitar psycho-cacophony for minus one minute. So, are you saying it's ok to be inconsiderate of one's neighbors, as long as they do it in a manner in which YOU find "profound"? Ok, as long as I know where you stand.
Personally, I wouldn't want to live next door to anyone who felt it necessary to subject me to their taste in music - whether I like the music or not. I am decent to my neighbors, and expect the same consideration in return.
bad Metalhead that I am.

Actually, as much as I would like to give it a 10, it
is a legitimate article from a legitimate source.
What use it is on FR escapes me. . .
