HIP-HOP FLOPS

A shakeout is afoot in the world of urban apparel, as sales of once red-hot labels begin to cool, analysts and industry executives said.

The across-the-board slowdown is alarming some of the major department-store retailers that had allocated a growing amount of space to these brands on the belief that the double-digit sales growth of recent years would continue, sources said.

Federated Department Stores, which operates the Macy's and Bloomingdale's chains, for instance, is seeing recent sales of urban brands decline in the double digits, compared with year-ago levels, said one person, who added: "It has everyone worried."

Meanwhile, demand for the oversized jerseys and baggy jeans that these lines were known for dwindled, as classic looks regained popularity.

[snip]

"What we had at retail," admits Ullmann, Phat Fashion's president, "was too urban."

"and besides that, Levi's are the only jean that actually fit right with me...."

Yup...they fit perfect with your "gun-control" agenda. Go ahead and deny that you are against gun-control....I'm waiting with several of your quotes.

Hogwash. Wrangler makes good jeans. If your too lazy to stop supporting the leftist/homosexual agenda with your dollars that's your business. But don't expect to get a free pass about it on this Conservative forum. Maybe you should go back and read Mr. Robinson's mission statement. If you have a problem with any of that...maybe you should find some mushy moderate chat site on AOL.

MARIAH TO LAUNCH UNDERWEAR LINE

Curvaceous pop star Mariah Carey is set to do battle with chart rival Jennifer Lopez in the fashion world -- she's launching a lingerie range.

The singer has been busy designing her Mariah Kiss Kiss underwear collection, which will hit stores in 2005.

A friend of Carey enthuses, "Mariah will market the sexy undies after her next album release in June and she can't wait.

"They will be designed for women of all shapes and sizes."

Lopez released her intimates range earlier this year, two years after launching her J.Lo By Jennifer Lopez clothing collection.

It is my money. If I want to buy Levi's, I will. That does not make me a leftist/homosexual agenda supporter. Wrangler jeans suck. They do not hold up to the acid, lime and the other ingredients in mortar mix as well as Levi's do. The only other brand that I buy is Carhartt. That is the beauty of America. I am free to buy what I want to buy regardless of whether you agree with it or not.

"If I want to buy Levi's, I will. That does not make me a leftist/homosexual agenda supporter."

Yes...it does. You support a company with your money which supports the homosexual/leftist anti-gun agenda.

"Wrangler jeans suck. They do not hold up to the acid, lime and the other ingredients in mortar mix as well as Levi's do."

Hogwash. Both Levi's and Wranglers are made from the exact same ingrediant, 100% cotton. Try again.

"That is the beauty of America. I am free to buy what I want to buy regardless of whether you agree with it or not."

Nobody is disputing that you have the right to support the leftist/democrat agenda. The purpose of this forum however is to further the goals of Conservatism.

You need to stop being such an ass.

Mike is over there doing something even if he is not fighting. Just being there is a risk and here you are sitting in your comfy home ragging on him and attacking him for wearing quality jeans just because you believe we have to boycott every liberal company out there.

Well I won't buy jeans that are less comfortable just to help get you off by sticking it to perceived enemies.

If you have a problem with the goals of FreeRepublic as stated in Mr. Robinson's mission statement then perhaps you should go somewhere else.

Perceived enemies? Are you saying that those that support the anti-gun and homosexual agendas are your friends? As to your personal attacks......well, you've been here long enough to know the rules.

I support those principles.

But, boycotts have zero effect most of the time.

There are too many liberal companies to make an effective impact.

I will boycott in cases of outrageous examples, but so far what you have told me about Levi & Strauss is not compelling enough to get me to toss out all my jeans and switch to a less comfortable brand that does not fit me as well.

So "comfort and fit" is more important than Conservative Principles. Got it.

"...and have very rarely in my life needed to wear anything but jeans.

Me neither. The people I work with can be hands-on in a second, trying to make things work as planned. We have all worn nice clothes to work just to stain them, rip them, screw up shoes, whatever. The multi-millionaire owner of my company wears rugged clothes to work because he is also an engineer. He has desk pilots to deal with customers and contracts. Face it, the technical people make the basic decisions about how things will work.

I wear Levis, Wrangler, Lee, and whatever knock-off that wears and looks decent with a button-down shirt. I bought a pair of jeans for $10 that feels just fine and looks great. It took half an hour to find it, because sizes are no longer reliable.

I propose those baggy jeans and shorts get caught on sharp objects when the guy is running away from the cops. So those guys are in some some sort of prosecution now. The market is drying up.

The price of a few pair of Levis that I buy each year ( I buy less because they LAST longer) pales in comparison to the donations I give to worthy conservative organizations, FreeRepublic included. Really, I don't have to explain myself to you as it is NONE of your business what I do with MY money.

Are you FR's new spokesman? I didn't know that "we" had a mascot. BTW, I can still support each ideal that you listed and still wear Levi's. I would be amused at what one might find in your cabinets and drawers. I am sure that the PC that you are typing on has some "Made in China" parts also. If you are checking the company background info of every item that you are buying then I must say, yours is a sad life.
