Doctors: Yushchenko Poisoned With Dioxin

VIENNA, Austria - The mysterious illness of Ukrainian opposition leader and presidential candidate Viktor Yushchenko was caused by dioxin poisoning that was likely intentional, doctors said Saturday.

Yushchenko has accused Ukrainian authorities of trying to poison him in the runup to a presidential vote marred by fraud. Ukraine's Supreme Court voided the outcome of that vote, which Yushchenko lost to Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych, and a rerun of the ballot is slated for Dec. 26.

Yushchenko first fell ill in September and was rushed to the Vienna hospital. He resumed campaigning later in the month but with a pockmarked and badly disfigured face.

He returned to the hospital later in September for further treatment and checked in for a third time Friday.

The words used would be most important. . .too easy to have the real context literally lost in the translation without knowing what he said - what she said he said -and meant. . . I mean his response might have been dismissive for any number of reasons - if in fact it was. . .

Whatever . . .will be high intrigue here to see what follows. . .paybacks on this one could be very high. . .

Or maybe they didn't want to kill him - how obvious would THAT be if he dropped dead in the middle of the campaign?

Isn't it possible that they simply wanted to steal his looks, thus making him unpalatable to the public (you must admit - he went from being "handsome and youthful" to being "hard to look at") and destroying him personally - a sure warning to anyone else who might challenge the establishment?

This thing looks more complicated than a guy trying to get the sympathy vote, IMO.

I'm no biologist or scientist, but couldn't this have been a different type of chemical agent meant to leave traces of Dioxin after the initial assault on the body? It might not have been pure dioxin. Perhaps as well this is only what the doctors who have access to his tests were able to find. Perhaps he was poisoned by a mixed chemical agent previously unknown? You referred to Russia's vast chemical arsenal...

The doctors also said that if he had not reached doctors out of the country when he did he would have been dead in 24-48 hours. My guess is that if he had gone to a Ukranian hospital the tests never would have been released and we would be talking about a dead man. Did the ones who tried to poison him screw up? You betcha... Perhaps he noticed the taste, too and stopped eating?

Although I think there were other factors at play here that prevented it from being the tragedy it should have been... There but for the grace of God walks Yuschenko...

That means that the Ukranians are so vain they only vote for good looking people over ethnic/religion/issues. Would not such a thing make people angry and vote for the guy so obviously poisoned? The guy was not a fresh face he was prime minister before hand and left under a cloud of scandal.

Where did you read he was at deaths door? If they did not know what he had until this weekend they could not have treated him for poisoning. He went to Austria for tests to see what he had. And no - no such chemical composition exists that makes another poison look like dioxin. Why even want dioxin in the mix? It is like a neon sign for chemists.

I told you in a previous post not more than couple of hours ago that it could just as well been some Ukrainian securtiy forces.

Stop avoiding the question. Who do you think did this and why.
