Right I read that... But if I appoint a guy that I think is the BEST in the NATION to head up a Department and he withdwawes because of some obscue BS, the I have a a DUTY TO THE NATION to REFUSE that withdrawal and fight for what is right and good for the country,

Bernie would have been head of HS ... and with the news of him having hired illegals and not paying taxes would have hampered him from properly doing his job

Bernie knows how important the job is and that is why he withdrew his name.

I don't know much about him, and have no idea if he would have been any good. But I do know that the Left would love to take him down (and apparently they have).

Why the rush to give so much credit to the Dem's or the media - Kerik removed HIMSELF - Nothing more, nothing less - He obviously had some situations which weren't handled 100% correctly....he chose to withdraw himself from the DHS nomination instead of explaining himself - It is that simple.

"No one wants to go into public life with Democrats rooting around in their closets for skeletons"

The thing that burns my cookies is that we all know the Dims have skeltons in their closets, too and some much more than the Repubs (Toricelli is an example), but nothing ever seems to happen w/to them - look at Bubba and Teddy, McAwful's deal w Global Crossing, at the list goes on. The Repubs always step down and/or are encouraged to step down by their Repub colleagues.

I couldn't agree more about scumbag Lieberman. So he supports action against Arabs, that's because as a Jew, he (understandably) supports the Israelis. Big deal. He totally sold out, just to try and become VP

I doubt Bernie ever knew about it. I doubt he even signs the checks. He probably has a manager who handles all that crap.

It could be a bit more than nannygate. Nannygate is for our consumption.

Perhaps you can show when, during Bush's administration, that illegals crossing our borders have gone down? I would really like to see it.

Fox News has it wrong. Kerik cannot withdraw his nomination. Only The President can do that. Bernard Kerik can decline the nomination.

We came down hard on Clinton's nominee because she had a immigrant nanny and didn't pay SS taxes for her

Yes we did and the left would have hammered Bernie for it and I'm sure Bernie understands that

The post was a response to a question someone asked me that, if you go back a couple of posts, has more to do with Arlen Specter than with Bernie Kerik.

I think the jury was still out on Kerik and my support for him largely stems from the way the Dems rabidly attacked him.

I think you're wrong that the nation is "full of plenty" of people who can do a good job. There is only one person in the nation who is fit to serve as Homeland Security chief and that's Howard Sills. Everyone else is just a pretender. (and I'm only half joking)

I hope to give him the benefit of the doubt. But that might dwindle as this thread moves forward and the facts would slowly roll in.

This man seemed a good choice. But I'd have to apply the across the board rule if the initial reports are true. If Clinton or the Democrats' Cabinet nominee guy had such baggage, and I was opposed to his nomination, I couldn't very well turn around and exercise double standards, and be for such a nomination just because the Republicans are the Party in power.

I hope it was truly for some other reason; but if it is questionable or improper employment of illegal aliens, how incredibly EMBARASSING to the President, and all of us, and therefore, furthermore, GOOD RIDDANCE.

It's not the end of the world; there will be somebody even better than him. They, too, better not have any skeletons, though.
