Well let me be the first to have the guts to say this...if it is skeletons in the closet...and this guy was supposed to be a "tough guy"...he sure did run scared. Maybe he was too wimpy for the job if he couldn't stand up to liberal attacks. Or he had something "really" bad in his closet...or he had personal reasons.

...and you also have an adminsitration that is not willing to take any heat for their nominees...While your opinions are usually contrary to party lines they are always on the money. I am guessing that Kerik wanted to stiffen the borders and run the illegals out and Bush disagreed.

"Presidential press secretary Scott McClellan, in a conference call to news organizations, revealed that Kerik had withdrawn "for personal reasons.""
Personal reasons my foot!
If true why didn't he decline when asked by the president?
Corruption is rampant in high places.

If its Lieberman we go to 56 in the Senate... and Lieberman moving to the Bush administration may be the catalyst that finally gets Ben Nelson to switch parties. I doubt he wants to run as a democrat in a state that Bush won by over 30 points with the direction the dems are moving.... make that 57...

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,141224,00.html Scott McClellan (search), in a conference call to news organizations, revealed that Kerik had withdrawn "for personal reasons." McClellan said that Kerik telephoned the president at about 8:30 p.m. EST. Kerik also sent a letter to the White House in which he announced his wishes.

I think reporters were probably calling him about some things yet to be written about him...paraphrasing Mort Zuckerman,US News.

Bernie is no angel and that is why they wanted him in that position. They needed someone to knock some heads and ruffle feathers.
My guess is that his future employees saw that coming and dug into the confidential files.
So, in the end they get someone who plays the game.
Everyone is happy once again.

I thought he was standing well against the first barrage launched at him. Has to be something of a more personal nature.
Perhaps Kerik's was one of those 1000 FBI files hijacked by the Clintonista WH to be used for future blackmail purposes ??? One can only wonder .............

but as it stands now, this is a story most americans won't even hear about. You are probably correct here - But along with that, to American's him pulling his names means very little as well and means even less to how Americans will feel toward President Bush - It will have NO impact on how they see President Bush doing his job -
Overall this is a non-story to the general public - Though this is great for the news channels who have nothing to report on their 24 hour programs anymore - (so they will run with this for a few days non-stop....who cares) -
For Kerik to pull himself - that is his choice - no one should read anymore or any less into at this point - Asserting that the WH didn't do enough is simply silly.

the "capital" that Bush spoke of right after the election is quickly vanishing in my ledger... Naw - he's just saving it for something important. Like buying more "free" pills for Greedy Geezers or something.
You know - something important.

and you also have an adminsitration that is not willing to take any heat for their nominees, not willing to go to bat against the leftist media, they always "afraid" of them. like with Miguel Estrada. if this guy was dropped because of a lack of WH support, you can forget about Rudy taking a position in this administration, and you can forget about him helping the party take out Hillary in the 2006 Senate race. Oh, good grief. [yawn]

"I am guessing that Kerik wanted to stiffen the borders and run the illegals out and Bush disagreed."
That is the primary reason, I think, he withdrew.
I don't believe he withdrew because of "personal problems." If he had personal problems he would have declined the offer.

It appears there were things that weren't "well known."
It probably went something along these lines "We have this and that on you, so you better withdraw, unless you want it well known."
