SAN FRANCISCO (AP) 12.9.04, 8:10a -- Senator Dianne Feinstein is describing a harrowing experience during her visit to Iraq last week.
Feinstein told KCBS radio during take-off from Baghdad, the C-130 military transport plane she was a passenger on was forced to take evasive action because of a what may have been a missile attack.
The senator told the station that shortly after take-off, she could see light flashing through portholes on the side.
The pilot then began taking what Feinstein described as -- "extraordinary evasive action."
Feinstein says once the plane landed the pilot explained to her that there was no way to determine if the plane really came under a missile attack because once the warning system goes off, he automatically takes evasive action.
Feinstein says passengers on board were shaken up a bit, but she was not concerned after the first few moments.
Someone should ask her if the flashing light from that "missle" and/or AAA was red or green. That way we can know where she was sitting.
(Pilot humor here.)
What the hell was she doing over there anyway? What could she possibly learn from a few hours in a secure facility that she copuldn't get from communications including video feeds from the people on the ground there? The way I see it is that the C130 took routine measures that are experienced by nearly every plane in and out and the "Distinguished Senior Senator" from California is using that as the only way to salvage some face time on the local and national media.
Right. It was Lyndon Baines Johnson.
"Feinstein told KCBS radio during take-off from Baghdad, the C-130 military transport plane she was a passenger on was forced to take evasive action because of a what may have been a missile attack."
More likely it was some of her friends on broomsticks tryiing to visit her.

Is Feinstein a C-130 pilot? Flying in a war zone? How could she possibly know it was "extraordinary"?
Right. It was Lyndon Baines Johnson.
SENATOR DIANNE FEINSTEIN'S PLANE TOOK EVASIVE ACTION BUT SHE STILL MANAGED TO BOARD
Sometimes it's the duty of the pilot to NOT take evasive action.
LOL, great minds think alike!
Feinstein told KCBS radio she had to change her Depends.
I have spent many hours aboard a C-130. They are capable of incredible manuvering.
If this is a true story I just have to wonder if the pilot was not up to some serious fun.
The temptation would be overwhelming. I bet the Di Fi never returns to a war zone for the rest of her life!
Funniest post on the thread...
As someone who has flown on many C-130's I can only hope that she drank a gallon of coffee before boarding!
Fineswine should have kept her fat ass at home!
LOL the pilot just wanted to make her trip to the bathroom that much tougher! ;-)
There ain't no bathroom on a C-130!
Maybe the plane was taxiing to pick her up and, seeing who it was, tried to run her over.
That is more plausable.
.... and now she's hooked on harrowing.
Just a plain old harrowing-junkie.
"...when I realized - there WAS NO PILOT!!"
From the headline I assumed the story would be about how the plane took off without her.
