Kitten Survives 275-Mile Ride Next to Car Engine

BERLIN (Reuters) - A German couple was shocked after a 275-mile car journey to discover a surprise stowaway cowering next to the engine of their car -- a 6-week-old kitten.

The meows of the tiny animal only became audible after Elisabeth and Dieter Gesehl had parked their car.

"First of all we called the police as we feared for a moment that we must have run over and seriously injured a cat," the 64-year-old woman from Eggenfelden told Bonn express newspaper.

After checking under the hood, however, they discovered the unharmed kitten. The animal, which the couple have since adopted and named "Pussy," was soon back to normal after a few minutes of petting.

"He said that the girl was hysterical and that the cat wasn't in very good shape either."

You worded that just right for maximum coffee spewage, didn't you?

My DH gave a mouse a 10 mile ride on his motorcycle handlebars one morning.

He was on his way to work and after getting on the main road looked down and there was a mouse hunched over sitting on his speedometer. DH was doing about 60 mph (and the bike has no fairing or windshield).

After about 5 miles it started trying to crawl up the handlebars to him but didn't fall off.

DH pulled off into a gas station as soon as he could and when he finally slowed down to about 5 or 10 mph the mouse jumped off.

There is a children's book by Jan Brett of the Owl and the Pussycat with the most wonderful illustrations. Probably available on google. A great gift for a cat lover. p.s. I am NOT Jan Brett.

Happened to our big orange tabby....the hood was popped and there he was looking up and very annoyed.....had to get his
tail sewed back together and where one of those "space" helmets so he wouldn't try to lick it....it was kinda funny because his tail looked like a lion's....all shaved with a puff of fur at the end:-)

Snake is bleeding badly (for a snake) and will die from injury. Snake's owner will likely sue the car owner (if in the USA) for negligence, attractive nuisance, and alienation of affections. (!!!)

I had a feeling that someone out there in Freeper Land had an overwhelming need to spray coffee all over their monitor and I am happy to be a facilitator in such endeavors. ;-)

Literary.

I don't know about that, but I am a voracious reader.
Mostly I read history books instead of fiction; Slim and I have discussed this in the past.

In fact, I have a package of books I'm finally ready to send him.

Hope you enjoy Debt to Pleasure.
I checked it out of the library too, then a year or so ago ran across a signed first edition (not marked as such) for sale in a bookstore.
I think I paid $15 for it.

Animals are much smarter than we give them credit for. Glad the mouse made out okay. There are helicopters flying over my neighborhood. THEY ONLY DO THAT IF THERE'S A FIRE OR AN ESCAPED CONVICT. I think I'm going to go outside and see what's going on.

One of my cats is on the back porch and I hope she hasn't let any convicts in.

Serious question: can a six-week-old kitten survive without its mother?

I took in a five-week-old male kitten that was part of a litter one of my co-workers found at a job site back in September. Today he's a very healthy and rambunctious four-month-old. I started him out on a paste of canned kitten food mixed with replacement milk, and then just gradually got him onto his current diet of dry kitten food. Had a great appetite right from the start.

Even if they're younger and haven't really started eating regular food yet, you can still use the replacement milk (available at pet stores or even at Wal Mart) and let them nurse on that until they are ready to start eating solid food. But be prepared to feed them often.

Since my kitten was a boy, and since he was orphaned by one of the many hurricanes we dealt with this summer in Florida, I felt it only appropriate to name him Charley.

Good advice. Believe it or not, newborn kittens don't yet know how to poo and pee on their own, so Mother Cat has to “express” their bowels and bladder by licking their little rear ends until they do. If the kittens are deprived of this treatment they cannot relieve themselves and will mew in pain until something happens to ease the pressure.

Our last batch of kittens were abandoned by Mother Cat while still too young to “go” on their own, so every couple of hours my longsuffering wife had to rub their little hoo-hoos with a soft towel to get the plumbing to work. Fortunately after a week or so the average kitten figures out the whole sphincter-control thing on his or her own, but until then it's something the owner of the kitten has to be prepared to help them with.

Now you know why the Lord makes them so irresistably cute.
