Oh my God ... how .. how could this be?
Norm must have pictures of somebody. That's the only thing I can think of.
But President Bush has the power of the veto. He is singularly far more important than the Congress, and as such owes it to America to prevent unconstitutional bills like the CFR and AWB bills from being passed or even written.
Him to whom much is given, much is required...President Bush should have vetoed that bill, and while Congress could have stopped it earlier, President Bush bears the greatest responsibility for its passage...
Ed
In a round about way Congress does too. What you don't seem to understand is he wouldn't veto something he promised to sign if it showed up on his desk. This is the umpteenth time I've said this, and every single time you've completely ignored. With that, I am through with this argument.
I understand your point, he wouldn't go back on his promise, but WHY would he ever promise such a thing in the first place??
if he promised that he would sign a bill leveling 100% taxation rates for anyone worth over $1,000,000, would you say he has to sign it?
Absurd premise, to be sure, but before last year, who on Earth would have EVER thought that a Republican president would actually promise to sign, and then sign, a bill banning political opposition to federal candidates 60 days before an election???
He should have never made that promise in the first place, as he should have never said he supports the AWB, and would sign it if it ever came across his desk.
Well, I'm gettin' sleepy...g'nite, sky.
Ed
Well, George Bush seems to think so.
What exactly qualifies you to declare that the President of the United States has made a poor decision?
Are you privvy to more information than he is?
Just 10 days after September 11, in fact, Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta made it clear that airlines may not discriminate on the basis of race during security checks.
In addition, Mrs. Jacobsen reports, "During the 9/11 hearings last April, 9/11 Commissioner John Lehman stated that '...it was the policy [before September 11] and I believe remains the policy today to fine airlines if they have more than two young Arab males in secondary questioning because that's discriminatory.' "
This isn't a hollow regulation: In the three years following September 11, United Airlines, American Airlines and Continental Airlines settled discrimination cases with the Department of Transportation for a combined $3.5 million.
Don't bore me with details I already know.
Seriously, k2blader.......real life........the things that are most important.......involve far more than ANY political ideology.
Good leaders, especially those who name the Name of Christ understand that.
This President is a strong leader, and a problem solver. If the problem can be solved in a non-traditional way, he will work toward that end.
You can name-call all you want, but this President has earned my trust. You can call me a leftist 'cheerleader,' but those kinds of silly remarks don't reflect any form of truth. I was raised by strong conservatives, and have been one myself for most likely longer than you've been alive, and no vacuous accusation by the self-righteous 'I'm better than you because I'm a REAL conservative' crowd around here changes the facts.
(And btw.........nothing I've said to you is even remotely close to a compliment........nor will it likely ever be).
If it's important to President Bush to have a token left-wing moron in his cabinet, why not find him something to do that less harmful to Americans?
Give me two or three days and I'll think of something.
Perhaps all conservatives ought to send the President a reminder that we are still waiting for his first veto. A man is judged by what he is AGAINST as well as what he is FOR. Has there been another president who never vetoed anything in his first four years? I certainly don't recall any. With the free -spending crowd in Congress running up an enormous credit card bill for future generations of our families to pay, we have every right to ask when this president will begin showing some leadership in this area.
Exactly. And those two things are the focus of his existence.
Every day, every moment of his life is spent in trying to keep us safe from further attacks from terrorists, and he is working to pull America back to its roots in morality, responsibility, and life.
Those who claim this retention of Mineta in his Cabinet reflect a lack of concern on his part about our security know absolutely nothing about him.
We need to keep praying for him and for America as he prays for us. He has asked for us to lift him up in prayer, and he very much needs that support. There was an assassination plot against him only last week when he was in Colombia. Because of his strong stand against terror, he is the target of madmen and killers all over the world.
Keep praying.
How ill-informed are you, anyway?
RE: #219. No he is the worst person. We'd best contact the WH and let President Bush know how we feel about inserting the token imbecilic liberal in a post as sensitive as this one is.
I'm trying to figure out what information they are privvy to that George W. Bush isn't.
Regarding the safety of this nation, Maneta is a cancerous cyst!
Don't talk to me anymore.
The one thing that has constantly amazed me since joining FR four years ago, is the number of people who think that without intelligence (take that any way you want to ;o), or inside information about security and terrorist threats, they actually think they know better than the President.
How little do they really know that they don't understand what a burden the safety of the American people is to this man, and that he would actually endanger our lives by cavalierly appointing PC incompetant Cabinet members?
How little do they understand?
Oh, Howlin, c'mon!
What a terrible argument!
First of all, any voting citizen has not only sufficient qualification, but also has the responsibility, to judge the public acts of elected officials. How can our system work otherwise?
Secondly, the "He knows more than you do" has been used often to defend the worst executive incompetence-you may even have run into this at work.
Information is not judgement. It matters not how much information an official has, what matters is if he uses that information wisely and makes good decisions.
Any enfranchised adult is absolutely properly qualified to judge this, and to express opinions about it.
Please reconsider.
