The French government should require citizens drink, and to excess. Not only will it help dry up the wine that's no longer headed to the US, it may drive some Muslims out. It may ease the passing of those who die of heat every summer, and generally give the French an excuse for acting so French.

"Thanks to the sword thrusts by the French state, wine is becoming synonymous with alcoholism," the Wine Academy of France, a group representing top wine makers and growers, said in a statement last week.

If it's because of French state sword thrusts, they should be prospering beyond their wildest dreams.

The vineyard owners and wine makers need to inspire a revolt against their socialist government.

A 180° change in policy could improve their export market.

It'll never happen though.

"Pinched by overproduction, shrinking exports, ...."

See what the fat euro gets them ...

"However, markets for French wine abroad are generally regressing with the UK and US markets dropping by 15.3% and 26.8% in value respectively."

I just wonder if Sadam got wine for oil? The French are constantly stabbing us in the back. I wouldn't drink a glass of their wine if they gave it away.

Pinched by overproduction, shrinking exports, advertising restrictions, an aggressive campaign against alcohol abuse and changing drinking habits, at least 6,000 growers and winemakers staged spirited demonstrations nationwide Wednesday to press the government for help.

They forgot to mention the boycott ;-)

Shrinking exports = euro inflating against the dollar

changing drinking habits = Americans quit buying frog wine because:

frogs = a55holes

As another FReeper pointed out on another thread about the same topic a while back, "All those muslims they let immigrate into France dont drink" . . . ha ha ha. But it is now the fault of the US that we dont buy enough to offset their weak domestic sales.

Charles Shaw (2 buck Chuck)is my friend these days.

French Wine Growers Protest Weak Market

If you bloody French wankers can't even send some troops to help with the
January 2005 elections...y'all can just take a leap.

My only sympathy for the French is confined to:
1. French military personnel that are chomping at the bit to go to Iraq... ≤br>2. Jews who haven't yet been able to flee The New Vichy France (a province of Eurabia)
AND
3. Decent French-folk who are embarrased by their wussy country-persons.

I drank my last stored bottle of French Wine while watching the Funeral of Ronald Reagan as the ceremony came to a close and the sun set over the Pacific ocean. It was a bottle of 1989 Mouton Rothschild which has the famous art label each year. On the 1989 label the art was two upside down sheep to represent the fall of the Berlin Wall. I bought it in the early 90s and wasn't about to throw it away. I seriously doubt I will knowingly drink any more French wine for the rest of my life.
