BTW, who nominates this person?

The president, and the senate confirms. It's a cabinet-level position, so the nominee will go through the usual confirmation process. BTW, Jane Harman represents the district in which I live. The only bright spot about seeing her name on the list is that if she's nominated, we get to try electing a Republican to replace her. While the Dems in Sacramento strengthened Dem representation here during redistricting, electing a Republican is not impossible in this district.

However, having said all that, if GWB actually inflicts Jane Harman on the nation, it will be the first time I will have been bitterly disappointed in him. Harman is no more qualified for such a position than I am, which is to say not qualified whatsoever.

Not impossible, but very, very difficult. I think the GOP would have an easier time beating either of the Sanchez sisters in their Hispanic-majority districts.

Registration in the CA 36th Congressional District, which Harman represents, used to be about 50-50 Dem-Rep registration until the 2000 redistricting. The Dems narrowed the district some and increased it's northern border. Now registration is roughtly 60-40 Dem-Rep. Nevertheless, there is a very active local Republican grassroots here. Strictly through volunteer efforts, it maintains one of the few year-round Rep HQs in the state.

With the right candidate and without the one bugaboo that sinks us so often (the hard right splitting off because the candidate's not pure enough), we'd have a good chance of retaking the district if the seat were open.

Not Kean. He craves power for power's sake and, consequently, is dangerous.

If thats the case, then he'll decline this job and run for senator.

Question, how come he never did run for jersey senator?

At least I don't see McGreedy's choice for chief of staff on Homeland Security for NJ on that list.

"Someone with credibility. Tommmy Franks."

No thanks. Someone who thinks like this is not a smart choice. The Constitution can survive any attack.

http://www.sptimes.com/2003/12/07/Columns/From_Tommy_Franks__a_.shtml

"What is the worst thing that can happen in our country?" Franks asked rhetorically. "Two steps. The first step would be a nexus between weapons of mass destruction . . . and terrorism." The second step would be "the western world, the free world, loses what it cherishes most, and that is freedom and liberty we've seen for a couple of hundred years in this grand experiment that we call democracy."

Franks suggested that a "massive casualty-producing event" might cause "our population to question our own Constitution and begin to militarize our country."

Jane Harman would be a great choice for Intelligence Czar is the purpose of the position is to give as much information as possible to the bad guys while preventing our guys from gathering any.

I didn't think that was the idea......
