Silent Night has to be the most difficult Cristmas Carol to secularize. There is a referrence to Christ in every verse.
Yes, exactly. Like trying to secularize "O Holy Night" (my personal favorite carol).
What cracks me up are the ads on TV with all the Christmas decorations and people acting like they are celebrating Christmas, but they play a regular pop song instead of even the crappiest carol. I mentioned on another thread Three Dog Night's "Joy to the World". So not a Christmas carol but in ads for Target and the Gap.
Agreed. She did her best though I guess to remove what she could so she wouldn't just be singing Silent Night over and over again. Makes me so glad my daughter is in our church's school. She not only will be singing silent night at their program, but in German no less. What a treat! There was a time, not necessarily for a program, that I remember learning that in a PUBLIC SCHOOL. I don't remember it being for religious reasons either. Teachers thought it was a good excuse for us little ones to learn a little German both language and culture. We'd sing O Tannenbaum too. Off topic a bit, just hit me last night as my little one was practicing for her school program.
