Dems' new Senate leader criticizes Justice Thomas

Incoming Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid on Sunday had harsh words for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

When asked to comment on Thomas as a possible replacement for Chief Justice William Rehnquist, Reid told NBC's "Meet the Press": "I think that he has been an embarrassment to the Supreme Court.

"I think that his opinions are poorly written. I just don't think that he's done a good job as a Supreme Court justice."

I just wonder: does Bush actually give a hint whether he'd like to appoint Thomas? Or Scalia? Or, God forbid, O'Connor?

Harry Reid like his predecessor , Tom Daschle , always sounds like he is doing a Marilyn Monroe impersonation -" Happy Birthday, Mr President.."
The Democrats should pray for a hormone scandal in their party.
A testosterone scandal.
For the men, this time.

Maybe it's just me, but I've got a slightly different take on this. Sounds to me like Senator Reid has just offered his enthusiastic support for Scalia to become the next Chief Justice.

What he's really saying is that the Democrats are scared to death of Thomas' age . . . the last thing they want is a black, GOP-nominated Supreme Court chief justice sitting there on the Court for the next 35 years to remind voters which party is TRULY the more "inclusive" of the two.

Frist shied away from early threats to use the "nuclear option" of changing Senate rules to allow a simple majority to break a filibuster -- which requires the votes of 60 senators. He said he would go to Reid "and basically say, 'Just give us an up-or-down vote.' "

"I will pursue every option that I have," he said. "And there are several options that we have."

Frist, please grow a pair or ask Hillary to borrow hers.

"I will pursue every option that I have. And there are several options that we have."

We're doomed. Prepare for being defeated & the usual excuses about how we didn't have enough votes, we couldn't go against senate tradition, we're thinking of new strategies, we'll have to wait for 2006. Blah, Blah.

Nominate Friest or McCain in 2008 & we will go down to defeat.

An excellent obsevation that Reid can hear the truth and
can't change his opposition.

He'll wind up being another Sen. Kerry with a 180 pronouncement on everything that matters. After a few
months, he'll be a laughingstock on Dem leadership...just
like his mentor.

Two years from now, the public will knock the D's down to 39 seats. Maybe then they'll "get it."

Reid has probably not even read his opinions. I'm a lawyer. I've read plenty of Thomas' opinions and they are not "poorly written."

Reid is a racist.

I agree. I am not a lawyer, but I've read many opinions cover to cover, and Thomas' are my favorite. They are very unlawyerly in how much clearity they bring to the cases. You do not need a JD you understand his opinions.

Reid announces beforehand what he will do just in case President Bush should get the idea of elevating Thomas at the Supreme Court.
Reid needs to keep the interests of his voters in the forefront.
Therefore this "gentle" warning. Interesting what follows.

Best way to handle Reid is to send him a FAX with your thoughts...

FAXES
202-224-7324 (in Washington, DC)
702-388-5030 (in Nevada)
775-883-1980 (in Nevada)
775-686-5757 (in Nevada)
775-201-6010 (in Nevada)

I send a copy of the same FAX to each of the above numbers to make sure his staff knows my view about their boss.

Here's the two major Nevada Newspapers...for your convenience if you want to write about Senator Reid's racist ignorance.

Las Vegas Review Journal
The Las Vegas Sun

Only a white liberal can get away with such blatant bigotry.
To the "usual suspects" in the Democratic party, it's racism only when it serves their interests. We won't see Rangel, Jackson, etc. hyper-ventilating on national TV over this.

When the good Lord calls one of His servants to an extraordinarily difficult task, He prepares that servant first.

Bush's time as Texas' governor, working with Bob Bullock and the irascibles among the Texas legislature, were his preparation.

I live in the Detroit area. Was born and raised here and worked politics here. Nowadays, I'm older, retired and seldom make too much noise. But, over the years I have made many acquaintances on the "other side" of the political spectrum. And, we get along, just as long as we do not talk politics.

A few days ago, very early in the morning, I went to a little diner right on the border of Detroit. I said my hello's to the folks I knew when I entered and started back to the rear booth where I usually sit and read with breakfast. That's out of the way and quite, so I always go there.

As I started back, a Reverend I know saw me and waved me over for a moment. He is an inner-city church man with a rather large flock and a civil rights worker from way back.

"Can we talk?" he asked.

"HI Rev., I said, "sure, anytime," and kept walking. He knows my number. We have never "talked" there before.

Well, the old Reverend came back to my booth with an angry scowl on his face. He sat himself down across from me with only half an apology and laid a bunch of newspapers on the table.

Turns out, the Reverend was not at all angry with anything I did or said lately. He was pushing Condoleezza Rice cartoons at me. Then, a couple articles about Justice Thomas. We know those here.

He was angry. Very angry.

All I could say was so am I. But, that's the liberal media. (Knowing he is a liberal.)

"What can we do," he asked.

"You can do more then I can," was my answer.

"Maybe," he said. "We need to do something."

There was more. And so it goes. Fact is, there are many Black people out there who will be proud to see Condoleezza Rice as Secretary of State and Clarence Thomas as Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Fact is, there may be a hell of a lot of Black people interested in seeing that.

I'm just an older white guy. But, if I get a vote, it is "hell yes!" for both.

Oh . . . and I have read a couple hundred Supreme Court opinions over the years and find Justice Thomas' to be quite good. He actually believes in reining in the federal regulatory bureaucracy, enforcing the Tenth Amendment, supporting Second Amendment rights, and more.

Of course, these are not things the socialist Democrats will agree with. Therefore, if we agree to support Thomas for Chief Justice, we will also need to be willing to make a lot of noise about it.

I am. Watch my writings. LOL

It would seem that Harry Reid & the rest of his "Hypocrat"
ilk should be fitted for white sheets & hoods as soon as possible. While his racism is not necessarily overt, it is all the same as virulent & obnoxious. Judge Thomas would make an excellent Chief Justice as would Justice Scalia.

The 'Rat Playbook:

"When it comes to black Republicans - let all your latent racist thoughts and feelings have a field day. Don't worry about Jesse Jackson, the Congressional Black Caucus and the NAACP, because they all work on our plantation, and they aren't about principle anyway, else they'd be Republicans. So get out there and be all the things you accuse Republicans of being. It's the Democrat Way!"
