R.E.M. Apologizes to Mexico

(Michael Stipe apologized in the name of the American people to the Mexican audience that went to see him sing with his band REM this past Friday night at the Sports Palace; he apologized not because he did not come to Mexico sooner, but because he knows that the Americans are not good neighbors.

"We are Americans, and in the name of our countrymen, who we all know are not the best neighbors, I offer you an apology" Stipe said in the final third of the concert which impressed the band very much.

"When I was flying to Mexico with Billy Joe (Green Day's lead vocalist), he tod me that the Mexicans are the best audience in the world" said the tall singer.)

It looks like REM is behaving like the Dixie Chicks in England.

I own NO music by REM, nor will I start....Stipes "sings" like someone with a very bad head cold, even when you ignore his political leanings

I would be proud to have Michael Stipe remain in Mexico as our ambassador of goodwill forever.

Go Try This, Go Ahead - I Dare You! If you have a Death Wish!

Enter Mexico illegally. Never mind immigration quotas, visas, international law, or any of that nonsense.

Once there, demand that the local government provide free medical care for you and your entire family.

Demand bilingual nurses and doctors.

Demand free bilingual local government forms, bulletins, etc. Procreate abundantly.

Deflect any criticism of this allegedly irresponsible reproductive behavior with,"It is a cultural United States thing. You would not understand, pal."

Keep your American identity strong. Fly Old Glory from your rooftop, or proudly display it in your front window or on your car bumper.

Speak only English at home and in public and insist that your children do likewise.

Demand classes on American culture in the Mexican school system.

Demand a local Mexican driver license. This will afford other legal rights and will go far to legitimize your unauthorized, illegal, presence in Mexico.

Insist that local Mexican law enforcement teach English to all its officers.

Good luck! You'll be demanding for the rest of time or soon dead. Because it will never happen.

It will not happen in Mexico or any other country in the world... Except right here. Land of the naive.

God Bless America--She needs it.

The ego overruns.

He has no ability to apologize for those who have not authorized him. Bunch of arrogant jackasses.

I clearly remember the last time I ever watched Jay Leno. Michael Stipe was sitting in the guest's chair and Leno asked what was scrawled down one side of Stipe's pant leg. Pointing to one pant leg, Stipe said "this is the number of disenfranchised voters from Florida 2000."

As if that wasn't bad enough, Leno responded by saying something to the effect of "I'm surprised you don't need two full pant legs to cover all who were disenfranchised by that election"

Stipe laughed and both Leno and him were chummy-chummy the rest of the night.

Sickening.

We're bad neighbors? Who's trespassing into who's backyard and taking everything not nailed down?

Michael Stipe apologized in the name of the American people

Not in the name of this American person... nor in the name of many like-minded people with whom I associate!

On behalf of Michael Stipes and everyone associated with R.E.M., I would like to apologize to the good people of the United States of America for the band's audacity in claiming to speak for the nation.

If he can apologize for me, I can apologize for him.

We're bad neighbors? Who's trespassing into whose backyard and taking everything not nailed down? It's beyond a ridiculous thing to say. Mexico would be Ethiopia without the glitz if it weren't for its proximity to the US and the fact that its #2 industry is people working here and sending money back home. Absolutely unbelievable.
